Steam is about to be royally flooded with even more low quality games soon to feature AI generated artwork.
In the previous year, when a game developer announced that Steam would not accept any game utilizing Artificial Intelligence whether or not the game features AI generated assets or real-time generation.
Valve responded by stating that they were “working through how to integrate it into our already-existing review policies” and emphasized that “our review process is a reflection of current copyright law and policies, not an added layer of our opinion. As these laws and policies evolve over time, so will our process.”
Valve has taken a further step in addressing AI content on Steam, announcing changes to enable the release of the majority of games that utilize AI technology.
The first change involves an update to the Content Survey, requiring developers to disclose whether AI was used during development, specifying if it was pre-generated or live-generated.
If a game were to use pre-generated AI constructed assets, developers must assure Valve that the game will not include illegal or infringing content and will align with marketing materials, which goes without saying that Valve takes a big issue when it comes to games that they consider to be “trolling” or pornographic so long as said pornographic content depicts heterosexual relations.
For live-generated content, developers need to detail the safeguards in place to prevent the generation of illegal content.
I’ve gone on and on about Valve’s retarded hypocritical policies when it comes to curating the games that release on the Steam Store, with Gabe Newell and his merry band of boy-lovers seemingly banning a plethora of Japanese developed titles that feature depictions of “underaged” female characters or happens to be based upon a school setting.
It’s called the “Waifu Holocaust” and it’s very much a real thing.
While Steam has been notorious for banning a multitude of games be they adult-oriented or not because they feature “underaged” female characters, Steam happens to be home to some of the most bland and uninspiring pornographic smut and or shovel ware, but such games feature much more heinous kinks as their main premise or happen to be western developed.
Games such as Dungeon Travelers 2 were denied a release on the Steam Store while games such as Summer Memories and its sequel, Winter Memories alongside other games such as Succumate, Milky Quest 2, and My Naughty Summer Vacation are all explicit adult games available on the Steam store that include depictions of male characters with child-like features while games featuring schoolgirls are deemed harmful and problematic.
Gabe likes little boys, there’s nothing really else to say. Either it’s all okay or none of it is, there’s nothing I despise more than hypocritical bullshit schemes on a corporate level.
Valve previously stated that they’d be taking a backseat in regards to moderation of Steam games, they’d generally allow everything that wasn’t considered to be obvious “trolling” which is exactly why Steam is home to such lovely Unity asset flips as “Hentai vs” and my personal favorite the “Sex with Hitler” franchise.
While fictional underaged girls strike a problem with Valve’s moderation team, one thing for that that seemingly falls through the net every single time without fail is raunchy BDSM gay sex with Adolf Hitler himself.
Valve is very specific that it doesn’t want games that utilize AI generation to feature problematic content, such as lolicon characters or characters depicted within a school setting mind you, but the most outlandish homoerotica will most certainly be safeguarded at all costs.
This also introduces a system on Steam allowing players to report “illegal content” within games featuring live-generated AI content. Players can submit reports via the in-game overlay when encountering content believed to have bypassed appropriate guardrails on AI generation, so if a game were to fall through Valve’s hypocritical cracks rest assured it’ll likely be taken down upon additional analysis.
Valve looks to impose a temporary limitation on AI content, particularly “Adult Only Sexual Content that is created with Live-Generated AI,” will not be released initially, however offsite patches are most certainly an option for practically anyone looking to make a quick buck filling the Steam store with a censored RPG Maker / Ren’Py experience.
Outside of smut the inclusion of AI inside of games has practically limitless possibilities, from AI constructed voice acting outdoing Capcom when it comes to the Resident Evil 4 Remake, to small time developers saving countless hours leveraging AI generated assets such as textures.
But given how Steam itself has become home to the most detestable kinds of smut possible, it’s inevitable that they’ll permit AI generated adult-only titles from releasing on the storefront unleashing a tidal wave demolishing what little “quality control” Steam even has anymore.
