The Touhou Project pub / restaurant simulation game, “Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya,” which was initially released for PC in October 2021, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch on May 2, 2024. Players will immerse themselves in management and interaction within Gensokyo, where Mystia operates a food stall.
Phoenixx revealed on December 16th that the Nintendo Switch edition of Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya is set to launch on May 2, 2024. Concurrently, pre-orders for the game have officially opened.
“Touhou Yozakura Shokudo” is a simulation game centered around running an izakaya, where Mystia Lorelei strives to revive her business. Developed by Nishoku Yuushichou and Re0 Doujin as a derivative work within the “Touhou Project,” franchise, the game features Mystia Lorelei, the protagonist, a night sparrow youkai possessing the ability to “drive people mad with her singing.”
In the Nintendo Switch release of Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya, all the content that was initially available as DLC on PC will be integrated as standard.
The standard edition, accessible for digital download, carries a cost of 3,520 yen, tax included. For fans of physical media a boxed version is set at 4,510 yen, also tax inclusive.
The limited deluxe edition is available for 9,130 yen and incorporates exclusive items like a carefully chosen original soundtrack and a Mystia figure strap adorned in a chef’s apron. Furthermore, you will receive a soundtrack CD and fancy playing cards with character illustrations.
Set in Gensokyo, the fantasy land, Mystia’s eatery gained popularity under her management. However, one day, an annoying customer wreaks havoc, leading to the destruction of the establishment.
Realizing her inadequacy after the incident, Mystia operates food stalls throughout Gensokyo while grappling with the debts incurred from the Yakumo family, she strives to resurrect her business. The game unfolds the narrative of izakaya management in the fantastical realm of Gensokyo.
It’s simple and basic and yet carries a distinct charm, especially given the nature of intricate pixel artwork laced throughout, Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya is by far one of the most popular and well received video games based upon the Touhou Project intellectual property, with a stellar 98% positive review track record on Steam with over 15,600 reviews to its name this is certainly a must try for Touhou fans.
The game is split into two primary segments, distinguishing between day and night. During the nighttime operating hours of the izakaya, Mystia assumes the role of the proprietress. Initially, she evaluates her available recipes and inventory status to determine the menu.
The objective is to expand the business gradually by fulfilling orders for dishes and drinks. Besides the regular clientele, prominent staple Touhou Project characters frequent Mystia’s establishment, from Reimu to Patchouli rest assured there’s plenty of interaction with your favorites.
These visitors place orders based on their personal preferences rather than selecting from a menu. If Mystia meets their requests, spell cards are triggered. Meeting Rumia’s satisfaction, for instance, may result in advantages such as obtaining meat-based food items. As an additional feature, players have the option to choose locations for their food stalls. Specific characters can also be enlisted as staff for the izakaya.
In the daylight hours, outside of the izakaya’s opening hours, Mystia explores the map to gather ingredients. Building connections with Gensokyo residents on the map enables the discovery of new recipes and ingredients. Advancing in ingredient procurement for the nighttime, the enhancement of the shop’s recipes comes from fostering relationships with characters.
Although the initial range of activities is constrained, the unfolding story unlocks new locations. Notably, the game’s unique aspects showcase Touhou series characters and Gensokyo settings portrayed in sublime pixel art of which I hold favoritism towards.
For gaijins like myself you can still pre-order Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya’s limited edition on platforms such as AmiAmi for ~58 USD, or the standard boxed edition for ~28 USD.
