In 2024, we’re seeing a resurgence of dungeon crawling games as Publisher Phoenixx and developer AQUASTYLE have announced Touhou Genso Wanderer FORESIGHT.
This dungeon-crawling RPG, a fan game based on the Touhou Project franchise, is set to release on PC via Steam on May 15th.
Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT- is a dungeon exploration RPG that follows Reimu Hakurei as she embarks on a journey to save Gensokyo from incidents she had solved before.
The protagonist, Reimu Hakurei awakens in the ransacked Hakurei Shrine, her recent memories lost. With the assistance of Touhou heroine Marisa Kirisame, embark on a quest to unravel the forgotten mystery and prevent Gensokyo’s destruction by an unknown enemy.
Created by the doujin game development circle AQUASTYLE, this fan-made roguelike features characters from the Touhou Project franchise exploring dungeons. This installment serves as the newest entry in the “Touhou Genso Wanderer” series. Previous titles in the series include Touhou Genso Wanderer Lotus Labyrinth R, which received a mostly positive rating of 78% from 308 Steam reviews, and Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded, which earned a 93% rating from 1652 user reviews on Steam.
The structure of these dungeons changes with each new challenge, and levels reset accordingly. This core mechanic has led to the development of challenging dungeon exploration gameplay.
This game strives to offer a roguelite experience that appeals to players unfamiliar with the genre. With turn-based character movement and attacks, the straightforward dungeon crawling design is reminiscent of titles like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.
Within the dungeon, there are no repercussions for defeat, ensuring that your equipment and level remain intact for subsequent attempts, making you stronger each time.
Moreover, you can swiftly travel to previously explored key locations, facilitating faster advancement. While navigating the dungeon, you can concentrate on overcoming challenges while also improving your equipment and level.
The game also provides stat adjustments. Interacting with the inhabitants of Gensokyo allows you to obtain “boards” that can increase your basic stats. Additionally, asking Suika Ibuki to rebuild the shrine enhances the convenience of your journey. With repeated gameplay, character performance improves, making it easier to clear stages.
“Touhou Genso Wanderer: Foresight embraces its roguelike origins with a straightforward dungeon crawling experience packed with depth,” stated JYUNYA, head of AQUASTYLE.
“The story is as compelling as the gameplay, and it’s been a pleasure to work with the various artists, musicians and developers who have made this game a possibility.”
