Praise be to Mugino.

The Toaru Majutsu no Index Mokuroku Gensou Shuusoku mobile game, otherwise known as “A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest” has announced a collaboration with the Overlord series. This collaboration will allow players to collect characters from the Overlord franchise and share their outfits within the game.

Toaru Majutsu no Index Mokuroku Gensou Shuusoku is a turn based mobile game based upon the A Certain Magical Index series, and like all other mobile games to come from Japan it happens to be another predatory gacha title that allows players to collect their favorite characters from the franchise, each with their own abilities when engaging in battle.

The element of A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest that’s most surprising however would be its main campaign which is fully voiced for the most part, with multitudes of in-game cutscenes with prominent characters of the Toaru Majutsu no Index franchise.

Allowing fans to be much more engaged to the game itself rather than simply battling from stage to stage and grinding out items for upgrades and progression like other popularized turn based gacha games based on prominent Japanese light novels.

A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest certainly doesn’t stray too far from the norm but it’s more than enough to justify the game for those who go absolutely nuts over the A Certain Magical Index series, the mobile game originally launched back in early 2019 and continues to go strong over four years later.

A main contributor to the games continued success would definitely have to be frequent releases of additional content (and characters), namely through collaborations with other well known established franchise such as Konosuba, NieR Automata and even Shakugan no Sahana.

It’s not only additional characters that players can gain access to during these limited time runs, each and every one of these collabs in A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest come with fully voiced cutscenes and additional story elements as well.

Collaborative limited timed events is a common theme amongst predatory mobile gacha games, there’s a large overleap between players who just so happen to be fans of these other franchise it’s a tried and tested method of increasing player retention, engagement and obviously increased profits for KADOKAWA.

KADOKAWA in recent times have absolutely loved milking cross brand collaborative events inside mobile games especially with franchises such as A Certain Magical Index, Overlord and Konosuba, with NieR recently getting a collaboration on Goddess of Victory: NIKKE and A Certain Magical Index finding its way onto Blue Archive.

No harm no foul. Players love these collaborations and they continue to come back for more, how could they not when these respective franchises are immensely popular with not only Japanese audiences but western gaijins as well?

Overlord is another franchise that’s no stranger to being passed around and dangled like a carrot across many other franchises and games in collaborative efforts, having previously been featured on The Seven Deadly Sins Grand Cross mobile game quite literally a couple weeks ago.

Other mobile games where Overlord had been featured include Konosuba Fantastic Days, Grand Summoners, Echocalypse. Valkyrie Connect, Heroes Evolved and even Caravan Stories just to name a few. KADOKAWA would love to do anything to utilize the franchise besides actually devoting money and resources into quality animation for the series that clearly deserves better.

Anyways, from now until November 17th will the A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest and Overlord collaboration run from, with players getting login bonuses during this time period, alongside 145 awakening crystals to unlock the 3-star battle maid, Pleiades member Narberal Gamma.

Players can also look forward to exclusive rewards and bonuses for completing events and missions during the limited collaboration. With characters such as the notorious Ainz Ooal Gown being made available via gacha pulls alongside Frenda Seivelun in Lady Shalltear‘s iconic attire, Mugino Shizuri wearing Albedo’s outfit and Mare Bello Fiore among others.
