This double pack includes The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer and The Quintessential Quintuplets: Five Memories Spent with You.
Previously, these visual novels were quietly listed on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop before their official announcement. To the delight of myself and many others I’m sure, Spike Chunsoft has now stealth-launched the game on Steam as well.
The games are now available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. Each game is priced individually at $35, while the Double Pack is available for $60. Additionally, both games are on a 10% launch discount this week, starting today.
For an IP as big as The Quintessential Quintuplets, it was quite surprising to see Spike Chunsoft opt for a shadow drop in a digital-only western release. By release time, there will have been only a week’s worth of prior marketing.
This isn’t the first time Spike Chunsoft has shadow dropped major titles, though it is disappointing they didn’t invest in proper marketing for such a significant release. Until now, Spike Chunsoft has rarely published non-Science Adventure series titles from MAGES in English.
The sole exception has been YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World. Other MAGES titles have typically been handled by publishers like PQube, who recently offloaded the English localization of KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! to a third party, resulting in grammatical errors and botched translations.
Spike Chunsoft has not yet announced whether they will be publishing additional Quintessential Quintuplets games from MAGES.
The first game, Memories of a Quintessential Summer, was released at the end of the anime’s second season. The second game, Five Memories Spent with You, launched alongside The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie, and the third game, Five Promises Made with Her, coincided with the airing of The Quintessential Quintuplets~ 2-episode TV special.
MAGES also developed the puzzle game Gotopazu Story and recently announced its sequel, Gotopazu Story 2nd is set to release this year.
The success of this double pack will likely influence whether more Quintuplet adaptations are translated for Western release. With Spike Chunsoft moving into publishing other works by MAGES, they might also handle the localization of the upcoming suspense visual novel “Iwakura Aria.”
The double pack includes Memories of a Quintessential Summer, a summer-themed visual novel centered around the main protagonist, Futaro, and his younger sister, Raiha, who are invited to the quintuplets’ private island.
What begins as a three-day getaway filled with plenty of bikini action turns into a two-week survival trip after a sudden storm ravages the island.
The second game, Five Memories Spent with You, serves as a direct sequel to Memories of a Quintessential Summer. In this game, you’ll play as Futaro Uesugi and experience a graduation trip six months after his confession at the school festival.
The prologue is set on the night following the festival, and the player must decide to whom Futaro will confess his feelings.
For those unaware, The Quintessential Quintuplets is originally a manga series by Haruba Negi, published from 2017 to 2020. It has received numerous anime and video game adaptations, as you might have guessed.
Most recently, to celebrate the anime’s 5th anniversary, a new anime project was announced. This upcoming project will feature an original story by Haruba Negi and take place after the events of the manga’s conclusion.
When the store listings for both titles were initially discovered, I felt a bit disheartened. Not only was there a lack of proper advertisement and acknowledgment by Spike Chunsoft, but there was also no mention of a PC release, with the only other viable platform being the Nintendo Switch.
However, I am absolutely delighted to find out that Spike Chunsoft hasn’t neglected PC gamers, as both visual novels have made their way onto Valve’s Steam store.
