The official Twitter account for Kore Yamazaki’s “The Ancient Magus Bride” revealed on Thursday that Bushiroad is utilizing AI translation by Mantra to publish the manga simultaneously in both English and Japanese as it returns from its hiatus.
Mantra is also extending AI translation services for the simultaneous English releases of Yamazaki’s “Ghost and Witch” manga. Furthermore, the companies have intentions to introduce simultaneous releases in Simplified Chinese, commencing in May.
This partnership is geared towards expediting the reach to a worldwide readership, utilizing Mantra’s dedicated AI translation engine, “Mantra Engine,” tailored specifically for manga.
Mantra Engine, developed by Mantra Corporation, is a specialized cloud translation tool designed for manga and vertical-scroll comics. It enables the seamless completion of all manga translation tasks within a web browser, utilizing AI technology to optimize the translation process and significantly reduce the conventional translation workflow.
Presently, it finds application among both domestic and international publishers, translation firms, and distribution service providers, playing a key role in translating around 50,000 pages monthly (equivalent to 250-300 tankobon volumes).
Bushiroad Works, recognized for its thriving manga series, is actively working to broaden the accessibility of its content to a more extensive international audience through this concurrent serialization.
This partnership aims to enrich the manga-reading experience for fans globally and play a role in the widespread promotion of Japanese manga on a global level.
The simultaneous Japanese-English serialization of “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” represents a pivotal milestone in this collaborative initiative to overcome language barriers and ensure that manga content becomes more accessible and enjoyable for a diverse audience.
However I for one believe that this switch towards the usage of AI translations was done so as a means of cost saving measures and convenience, cutting out the middleman in terms of translators, with most JP to EN localizations in this day and age being plagued with purposefully malicious misinterpretations of the source material if not deviating entirely away from the source in favor of pushing their own agenda.
I’ve gone on about the subject time and time again, from Granblue Fantasy to eroge, the end result is almost always the goddamn same, worthless sacks of shit with political agenda to push desperately subverting the source material and deviating away from authentic translations when it comes to scenes and context that they deem “problematic”.
With none of these lolcow-izors more egregious and worthy of being blacklisted from the industry than Katrina Leonoudakis.
Rather than employ malicious leftists who get high off the power trip their position entrails, I’d genuinely rather these companies resort to the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence to produce their own localizations in-house with minimal costs, effort and subsequently a higher quality translation versus societal rejects who seemingly cannot do their job without forcing retarded slang and buzzwords down their audiences throat.
Of course, you’ve got tourists up in arm regarding the implementation of AI translation, with majority of the Twitter replies to the announcement made by simpletons with pronouns in their biography.
These are truly the so called “fans” that Japan aught to cater towards, rather than their actual audience who continually voice their frustrations on malicious localizations becoming more commonplace and blatant, if every single company on Earth listened to the “vocal majority” from social media platforms everything in this world would be gay, trans or non-binary.
Never actually questioning the necessity for AI translation if these supposed localizers could simply do their jobs and not cost companies god knows how much in potential sales due to deviating away from the source material to advocate for their progressive ideology.
The old saying goes, “fuck around and find out”, these activists simply couldn’t do their damn jobs and as a result of their antics developers and publishers seemingly have had enough of their bullshit and are now exploring alternative avenues of producing localized content that’ll hopefully sell in greater quantities in Western countries.
I say let the machines win, these spineless sacks of shit do nothing but purposefully damage the source material that they’re paid to “translate”, damaging the reputation of the company producing the material and costing them money in lost sales, it’s people such as Katrina Leonoudakis that tarnish Japanese media for all involved right at the very source itself, spitting in the face of actual fans as they push stale memes and inclusive bullshit inside of anime, video games and manga.
There wouldn’t be a need for AI translations if these human translators would actually translate rather than rewrite, so fuck them all.
Yamazaki debuted “The Ancient Magus Bride” manga in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade magazine in 2013. However, the magazine ceased publication in September 2014, prompting the manga to relocate to the publisher’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine.
Yamazaki concluded the manga’s “Gakuin” (College) arc before the series went on hiatus. Bushiroad has scheduled the release of the manga’s 20th compiled book volume for April 2024, featuring both a regular edition and a limited first print edition that includes a drama CD. Additionally, Bushiroad plans to reprint the manga’s short story collection.
Seven Seas Entertainment is bringing The Ancient Magus Bride manga to English readers, along with various spinoff manga and supplementary books from the series.
The initial animated adaptation of the main manga was The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star OVA in 2017. This was followed by the debut of the first television anime season in Japan in 2017, and subsequently, the three-episode The Ancient Magus’ Bride – The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm OAD from 2021 to 2022.
The second television anime season premiered on April 6, with its second half airing on October 5, regardless I wish to see AI translations become an industry standard, fuckers like Katrina aught to learn an actual trade skill that doesn’t proactively harm the efforts of the host nation that created it.
