Insomniac Games has been given a pittance by their handlers to justify their eventual “GOTY Edition” for yet another game that hasn’t won a single game of the year award, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Sony isn’t just jerking themselves off here, with their PlayStation GOTY awards being determined by fan votes. However the entire concept of PlayStation fanboys voting for a PlayStation exclusive, the ONLY PlayStation title throughout the entire year? Truly groundbreaking.
It clinched several awards, including Best New Character for Venom, Best Story, Best Graphical Showcase, Best Audio Design, Soundtrack of the Year, Best Accessibility Features, and Best Use of DualSense Controller.
In the competition for PS5 Game of the Year, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 emerged victorious, with Baldur’s Gate 3, Final Fantasy XVI, and Alan Wake 2 as the runners-up. Additionally, Insomniac secured the title of Studio of the Year.
Personally I don’t believe the game is deserving of any awards, apart from most inclusive and diverse game design, considering how Insomniac Games collaborated with Sweet Baby Inc to produce a lazy sequel that barely changes from the original in terms of gameplay, with the game itself essentially being an interactive Marvel movie only with progressive undertones such as Mary Jane getting a manly makeover, and a plethora of woke progressive nonsense plastered inside of its side-missions.
It has been a turbulent week for Insomniac Games, considering how they refused to pay a ransom regarding a data breach they’ve sustained by the group known as Rhysida, resulting in well over 1.6 terabytes, 1.3 million files being uploaded to the internet.
It’s a very juicy topic that just keeps on giving.
So much so you’ve got prissy bitches such as Greg Miller demonizing these Insomniac Games leaks as being an invasion of privacy, despite the fact that Greg Miller was more than excited to cover the topics of leaks from the likes of Rockstar Games and Capcom, I guess someone wants to maintain the slurry of Sony bucks thrown their way.
Such as a playable PC pre-alpha build of Marvel’s Wolverine.
The leaks have confirmed that Insomniac Games have signed themselves up into becoming a Marvel studio for the next decade, with the company due to produce Spider-Man 3 across THREE individual parts.
Yeah, just like the Hollywood bullshit where movies are now released under partial installments, that’s coming to games now thanks to Sony. Insomniac Games also intends on releasing a PC version of Spider-Man 2 sometime next year, alongside another GOTY Edition for a game that hasn’t won a single award, though that’s just common practice considering how it has all downloadable content featured inside.
And if you thought segregating movie games into individual installments wasn’t bad enough, Sony intends to raise the price tag of its games from the now $70 standard to upwards of $80 to as high as $100 in the future. Combine this with Spider-Man 3 being sold as three distinct installments, with two for the main game and one for the multiplayer, you’re looking at a grand total of at least $150 for the “full experience”, which more or less gives these developers an excuse to bundle all three individual parts for $100 combined.
