Breaking News: Devoted Saints Row fan shifts blame for franchises demise from developers to publisher.
According to YouTuber “mrsaintsgodzilla21” in his latest upload titled “Volition’s Closure and the Future of Saints Row” there were allegedly plans for Volition to actually make a full fledged reboot of the franchise what what ultimately became of 2022’s release featuring a cast of unlikeable millennials and a cringeworthy story.
We already know the story, 2022’s Saints Row Reboot was met with universal hatred, both from a journalist perspective and especially a player perspective, with parent company Embracer defending its financial performance to eventually shutting down the studio for good.
The reason why was obvious, with Volition essentially destroying the Saints Row franchise which once upon a time used to be a rather violent gang oriented franchise which then turned into comedic shitshow of whacky tomfoolery with 2011’s release of Saints Row The Third.
Volition then somehow one upped themselves with a proposed DLC expansion for Saints Row 3 which was then turned into the next mainline installment, Saints Row IV.
Featuring a fucking alien invasion, reutilizing the same exact city, that being “Steelport” as the previous installment only in this pseudo digitalized ripoff of “The Matrix” movie filled with whacky cameos and superpowers, essentially rendering modes of transportation outside of simply “run fast” completely irrelevant, what was also irrelevant was the ending for Saints Row IV which seemingly blew up the entire planet Earth itself leaving the Boss and his merry crew of ex-gangsters on a ship floating through space.
And then Gat out of Hell happened.
How the fuck could Volition continue the franchise having seemingly detracted away from gang violence to alien invasion and the destruction of Earth? I don’t really know, let’s just have some demon girl suck Johnny Gat into hell because the players love Johnny Gat.
It sounds retarded because it is retarded, Saints Row IV was genuinely a downloaded expansion pack that was seemingly expanded upon and then we get this utter rubbish, the only salvation came in the form of its ending of which canonically the entire universe essentially “resets” and all your prominent Saints Row characters will start life anew and that’s it.
Saints Row effectively died upon the financial success of Saints Row: The Third, it formally died with Gat out of Hell. Only for Volition to follow up their golden goose with Agents of Mayhem which flopped spectacularly, despite bringing back the iconic character of Johnny Gat.
At this point it was clear as day, Volition had obviously lost their touch, stuck in a realm of mundane comedic nonsense making garbage after garbage installment, failing to listen to their fans as they continued to desecrate the grave of their once iconic franchise.
So personally in my opinion it certainly came as no surprise that Volition would be rebooting the franchise, the franchise of which they themselves have destroyed, and in doing so would find a way to fuck things up because quite evidently they haven’t been able to construct a serious and cohesive storyline in what would be over a decade.
The reboot done away with actual gangsters and instead gave us a bunch of prissy young millennials, of course with the game once again going forth with the tripe of over the top action sequences and comedic affairs, but according to mrsaintsgodzilla21 this wasn’t supposed to be the case.
According to him, Volition’s intention was to have a 80/20 split, with eighty percent of the focus being towards a serious and more gritty depiction for the reboot, similarly to Saints Row 2, the most iconic and legendary game in the entire franchise, and twenty percent comedic bullshit.
Mrsaintsgodzilla21 shifts the blame away from the developers for the failure of the Saints Row Reboot as apparently, their vision didn’t align with their publishers, Deep Silver.
There’s truth to those words, given the heinous and toxic environment developers have endured while listening to the whims of Deep Silver, leading to Techland essentially abandoning the Dead Island franchise due to a “difference in views” resulting in the Dying Light franchise which went from being “alright” to another microtransactional pile of shit.
The video proclaims many things that would be music to the ears of Saints Row fans, the reboot allegedly was meant to feature characters such as Johnny Gat, Julius and Dex alongside other prominent characters Pierce and Shaundi said to be included.
Dex is an understandable choice, with the original first two installments essentially glossing over how 3rd Street Saints member Troy was an undercover police officer, with Julius betraying the player in the first game, and by the second installment he had reformed himself now working for the Ultor corporation.
Similarly, Dex also winded up working for Ultor and it was intended that you’d be hunting Dex down and killing him after a failed assassination attempt upon you and Julius.
Mrsaintsgodzilla21 proclaims that it would be in this installment that players would be able to kill Dex once and for all, which genuinely makes very little sense, as the reboot would essentially have to pin Dex as one of the main antagonists throughout the story rather than a simple side piece to tie up a loose end.
It sounds unbelievable and that’s probably because it is, after the likes of Saints Row 3, followed by Saints Row 4, followed by Gat out of Hell and then Agents of Mayhem would you genuinely believe that Volition were somehow going to suddenly go back to form in making a serious, gritty and violent Saints Row reboot that features all your fan favorite characters and for whatever reason has you killing Dex as one of the main plot points?
Yeah, I’m not buying that one bit. The ESG ladled reboot that we eventually did received is more in tone for what Volition were capable of producing, which is nothing more than a big steaming pile.
But hey, we gotta blame somebody and why on earth would we blame Volition who at this point probably has barely little if any individuals on the development team who were there throughout the whole process during the development of the first two mainline installments, they’ve all likely been replaced by younger, more diverse group of developers who may or may not be progressive left-leaning retards who think toaster gags are funny.
I am absolutely sure that Deep Silver interjected throughout the whole process, altering the script and scribbling out whatever Dex filled fantasies the folks at Volition “clearly” wanted and wrote in a bunch of millennial pretentious drivel in crayon, the more modernized and woke development team had absolutely nothing to do with the rampant censorship and progressive themes laced throughout 2022’s reboot, which saw prominent fast food chain “Freckle Bitch’s” abbreviated to FB’s and “Rim Job’s” mechanics altered to Jim Rob’s.
I really don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but this whole thing smells like bullshit, as an avid fan of the first two Saints Row games the words that come out of Saintsgodzilla sound like a fever dream that’s too good to be true.
Further proven by the mention that Mike Watson, otherwise known as IdolNinja was penning the very mission that would see players kill Dex in this supposed Volition rendition of the reboot.
Mike Watson being the brilliant individual that was heading the long since promised PC performance patch / re-release for Saints Row 2 that would rectify the absolutely shocking optimization and bug ladled mess that CD Project Red produced, and unfortunately he passed away back in August 2021 and ever since the whereabouts of the promised PC patch were up in the air before Volition was shelved for good just a few months ago.
Volition is dead, the Saints Row franchise is dead for a second time, a supposed PC re-release / patch for Saints Row 2 has supposedly been “coming” since 2019 after rediscovering the original source code.
Nothing came of that nor will anything amount from this, especially now that Volition are gone. I am pinning the blame for what became of the Saints Row reboot upon not just Deep Silver, but Volition and the Embracer Group as a whole. It was always their intention of producing some bastardized college drama show instead of true gangsters, because of the sensitivities of modern audiences and the imaginary flow of cash from ESG hedge funds.

Much like how Grand Theft Auto has been watered down versus prior installments with Grand Theft Auto 6 likely to continue the decline further, if a game like Saints Row 2 ever were to release in the modern age rest assured that media outlets would swarm it like the cancerous vermin that they are due obscene violence, sexism, misogyny and whatever else.
