Pixiv once again censors itself to suit westerners as the never-ending witch hunt against “pedophilic” fictional drawings rages onwards.
The very second that Japanese community art platform, Pixiv, allowed westerners to sign-up and post on its website was the very second that it died. With the platform in question making some very questionable changes over the past couple of years, namely in the forms of issuing a “pledge of diversity” and a pledge of anti-harassment.
This was back in August of 2022 but it was a warning as good as any, when something or someone begins to advocate for “inclusivity” and “tolerance” what normally follows is chaos and destruction.
And that is exactly what Pixiv users got during the latter stages of 2022 with Pixiv cracking down on Fanbox and BOOTH content creators, think of these as a Japanese rendition of Patreon, only in the form of paid commissions included.
Pixiv declared that Fanbox and BOOTH users were no longer allowed to create / share content deemed to be problematic, such as the inclusion of material deemed to be sexual exploitation of minors alongside incest, rape, bestiality and mutilation.
The result of these changes angered many Japanese users as they felt as if Pixiv have betrayed Japan in favor of maintaining partnerships with western payment processors such as MasterCard and VISA, we’ve previously seen Nico Nico terminate its partnership with MasterCard due to their relentless nature when it came to demanding specific content be removed from the Nico Nico Douga platform.
Kink shaming is absolutely justified in almost every circumstance, however one of the massive problems that prevail when it comes to Japanese artwork and the relentless western gaijin most certainly has to be the misconception of lolicon artwork being thrown into the same category as actual child exploitive material, the continual larp that loli artwork is pedophilic generally does nothing except benefit actual child predators of whom go unpunished on western social services and platforms such as Twitter, Reddit, Discord and Roblox.
As per Pixiv’s statement, specific works will be subjected to “display restrictions” in certain countries. Pixiv has also introduced a “location” selection within User settings. For instance if a user account has their account location set to the “United States” it will result in the removal of certain content / tags from being visible.
In contrast, Japan will retain the ability to view all permitted content.
This can be easily circumvented by navigating to account settings > Language and location settings > Country/Region > and choosing ANY option other than “United States” that’s all that is required, simply change your location and all is well again.
You can either view this as a sort of win, given how western ingrates from America absolutely loath such sub-genres of artwork depicting “underaged children”, seemingly as they cannot differentiate between fiction and reality.
While simultaneously these very same westerners will gladly consume American made slop cartoons such as Rick and Morty or Big Mouth, adult oriented cartoons that feature sexual depictions of minor characters within them.
But then again, you aught to know by now that your average feminist on Twitter clearly doesn’t understand the word “hypocrisy”.
You can see these changes as a “win” simply because western audiences can no longer view the content that they clearly despise so damn much, however they’ll just continue to demand that lolicon artwork be removed or seemingly move the bar further in regards to exactly what “defines” child sexual material in regards to age and appearances to goddamn drawings.
Just a few months ago Pixiv no longer permitted artists on its platform to link their Fanbox page on their profile, they did this to allegedly prevent the sale of “prohibited content”.
I view this as a loss, Pixiv have already succumbed to western influences last year alone, and now they’re seemingly accelerating the process, for the time being the prohibition of access to problematic material and tags in applicable nations is just the start of what’s to come as Pixiv will certainly look to take more drastic measures of censorship in the future.
