On April 4, 2024, Nintendo launched the official Japanese website for the upcoming Switch exclusive title, Endless Ocean Luminous.
Endless Ocean Luminous introduces the setting of the “Veiled Sea,” an enigmatic area that transforms with each dive. It features various terrains like shallow coral reefs, underwater caves, and seabed volcanoes with flowing magma.
In this game, players can freely explore this mysterious area, encountering no less than 578 different creatures to discover, swim alongside and of course snap pictures of as they delve into the mystical underwater world.
Additionally, the website announced online play with the option of “Diving Together,” allowing players to explore alongside divers from around the world.
They can share world seeds and exchange gestures when discovering mysterious creatures together. While typically accommodating up to 10 players, inviting friends to the same session extends the capacity to 30 people diving together.
As your diver rank increases, you’ll have the opportunity to select the fish that accompany you on your adventures, known as “Companion Swimming.” Beginning with a modest school of low ranking fish, you will gradually rank up and be able to swim with some remarkable underwater creatures.
For passionate fish enthusiasts, the game offers an “Encyclopedia Function” that allows you to instantly check the name and description of the creatures you encounter, obviously there’ll be challenges and rewards for diving deeper into the depths and encountering all 500+ creatures to complete the encyclopedia.
To be completely frank, I was completely unaware of the existence of such a franchise until now. As an enthusiastic angler and fish keeper myself, there’s nothing more serene and soothing than a game that revolves around deep underwater dives and explorations, focused on discovering a near endless array of aquatic life, from fish to whales and crabs.
Once again, the Japanese firm Arika takes charge of developing Endless Ocean Luminous, marking the third installment in the franchise. The series initially debuted in 2007, with the last entry, Endless Ocean 2, launching way back in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii.
Endless Ocean 3 or rather “Endless Ocean: Luminous” is due to launch exclusively onto the Nintendo Switch on May 2nd, but obviously you can instead opt to emulate the game on PC via Ryujinx.
