PlaySide Publishing and Fumi Games have revealed fresh gameplay footage for their retro-styled cartoon first-person shooter game “MOUSE.”
We previously discussed the game late last year. MOUSE draws inspiration from 1930s cartoon animation, boasting a charming appearance while also incorporating gritty elements such as head dismemberment.
The teaser footage begins with an advertisement for a special can of spinach infused with a secret ingredient called “Spike-D,” reminiscent of Popeye and his fondness for canned spinach.
It then transitions to a brief snippet of gameplay demonstrating the effects of “Spike-D,” which functions similarly to the berserk power-up in “DOOM.” The character then proceeds to punch and eliminate enemies one after another. The anchor mark on the left arm adds to the Popeye vibe.
Additionally, it includes acrobatic maneuvers such as grabbing onto high hooks with your rat tail and riding updrafts for vertical movement. All of these elements contribute to the excitement I personally feel for MOUSE, which promises enjoyable gameplay filled with nostalgia.
The game is scheduled for release on PC via Valve’s Steam store sometime next year. While there’s no specific release date yet, you can add it to your Steam wishlist to receive email notifications.
