Spike Chunsoft revealed on January 19th that they will be launching the entire “Memories Off” visual novel series, encompassing titles one through seven, along with a collection named “Memories Off Historia”.
Developed by MAGES, the releases of these visual novels are set for February 1 on PC via Valve’s Steam store the illusive Memories Off series has been known for portraying painful romantic relationships, revolving around the theme of “irreplaceable emotions.”
The “Memories Off” series, stemming from the original 1999 release on the Sony PlayStation, portrays bittersweet romance and “adventure” elements. Each installment presents a unique theme, with the overarching motif being “irreplaceable feelings.”
The series distinguishes itself not only for its exploration of the pleasure of romance whilst delving into bittersweet aspects of love accompanied by pain.
The Steam release, set to launch, has undergone high-quality enhancements, elevating the visual quality from the original to full HD. The interface for each title is adapted based on “Memories Off -Innocent Fille- for Dearest.”
Consequently, the early entries in the series are poised for a revitalization, featuring upgraded CG artwork and improved playability. This release promises a beautifully remastered version compared to the original iterations across all seven franchise entries.
Moreover, slated for release in 2024, the newest addition to the series is titled “Memories Off Sousou: Not always true.“
Responsible for the character design in this installment is Sasaki Mutsumi, who previously worked upon other various visual novels such as Chaos;Head, which was temporarily banned from Steam, alongside having worked on Happy Lesson and Futakoi.
The scenario is crafted by Hayashi Naotaka, renowned as the main writer for “Steins;Gate” and having contributed to numerous related works in the “Memories Off” series alongside Sasaki.
The music is composed by Abo Takeshi, who previously worked on the series. With familiar creators uniting for this project, the upcoming release is generating anticipation as it endeavors to unfold a fresh chapter in the “Memories Off” series.
The forthcoming Steam release is ideal for those wanting to revisit the series ahead of the latest installment, or for those who’ve yet to experience the classics, the Steam releases only has Japanese and Traditional & Simplified Chinese as text options so rest assured that there’s no chance for these visual novels to be utterly ruined by progressive localization.
