New streamer shovel ware just dropped.
In a bid to capture the appeal of indie success stories like Lethal Company, developer LDM has announced “Manly Mines,” a unique blend of bodybuilding and traditional mining wrapped in a horror survival co-op experience.
As the name suggests, “Manly Mines” is an online cooperative survival horror game set in a mine, where players must train their bodies to get stronger and survive the perils within.
In Manly Mines, players assume the roles of workers equipped with gas masks and yellow helmets as they traverse the perilous mine and confront obstacles known as “Testing Gates.”
Despite being classified as a horror game, it features elements of humor. For example, players can headbutt equipment buttons and groove to music from a boombox. The primary goal is to explore the mine, gather items for currency exchange, and acquire food and supplements.
These resources can bolster muscle strength, empowering players to tackle tougher Testing Gates while also bulking up their physique.
Manly Mines is designed for players to cooperate and work together, planning their journey, gathering resources, and facing the terrors ahead. Progress isn’t solely determined by the amount of resources collected, but primarily by the physical strength developed.
Players need to lift, carry, and survive to build muscle mass, directly impacting their ability to overcome challenges as they progress, such as rampant cave gorillas.
While the game does support a single-player experience, it’s the cooperative gameplay that truly shines. Up to four players can join forces, strategizing and communicating as they confront gorillas and mysterious creatures in the mine.
The procedurally generated mine maps ensure a unique experience with each playthrough.
The game’s charm lies in the quirky and humorous interactions between players. Scenes in the trailer depict players advancing cautiously through narrow passages while others work together to transport materials like steel beams and tires.
Despite its seemingly simple nature, Manly Mines has the potential to become a hit among streamers and personalities, fueled by the appeal of VTubers having fun together.
I genuinely despise the mundane and monotonous nature of the AAA gaming industry, I want it all to burn. In the meantime until that day finally arrives I will gladly take solace in aspiring developers in creating their passion projects, even if they do seem a little rough around the edges.
The success of Manly Mines will likely spread through word of mouth, as social interaction is a key allure of cooperative survival horror games. I eagerly await its release on Steam in the third quarter of 2024 and anticipate it becoming a highlight within the VTuber community.
You have the option to add “Manly Mines” to your Steam wishlist through its store page or stay updated on the game’s development progress by following the developer’s Twitter account.
