Sorry Wuthering Waves, there’s a new Genshin clone in town, and this one is likely to even surpass miHoYo.
Manjuu, the creators of the popular mobile game Azur Lane, are stepping into the realm of open-world full-scale RPG gacha games with their latest announcement, Azur Promilia.
The upcoming release of the game spans across platforms including PS5, PC, iOS, and Android, offering pre-registration on the official website. However, the precise release date remains undisclosed.
Described as a creature companion fantasy RPG, it promises to cater to a wide audience with its action-packed combat system, base-building mechanics, resource collection, and farming elements. All of these features are presented in a vibrant cel-shaded aesthetic, featuring numerous charming maidens of varying sizes.
The game introduces a fantasy world RPG with a focus on creature companionship, akin to the recently popular open-world title, Palworld. Azur Promilia offers a rich tapestry of magic, civilizations, and creatures waiting to be discovered, aiming to blend beautiful girls with a pet-raising system in an open-world RPG experience.
As “Star Travelers,” players will encounter girls of various styles, embarking on a journey to uncover the origins of the stars, accompanied by their faithful “Star Companions.”
These companions not only aid players in exploration and combat but also serve as mounts for traversing both skies and seas. Seamlessly integrated with character attributes, these companions hint at the vastness of the game’s open world, evident from the scenes featuring flying mounts.
While the design of “Star Companions” in Azur Promilia draws comparisons to Palworld, there’s no indication of companion assistance in construction or crafting. Instead, the game features basic farming management scenes where creatures can generate their own resources such as stone.
Based on the limited gameplay footage available, it appears that Azur Promilia features a relatively straightforward base-building mechanic. This allows players to efficiently utilize various companions to operate things such as furnaces to smelt ore more efficiently, a process essential for crafting a wide array of items to aid in your progression.
Furthermore, players can engage in land cultivation and crop planting. While there doesn’t seem to be a survival aspect akin to a hunger mechanic in Azur Promilia, effective farming will likely be necessary for crafting food items that aid in combat by restoring health.
Manjuu has achieved significant success with Azur Lane, particularly due to the appealing variety of voluptuous maidens available in-game, featuring captivating Live2D animations. With Azur Promilia, the game has ventured into the realm of the third dimension. However, it’s evident that Manjuu is targeting a specific demographic with the design of certain characters.
Take, for example, “Shalle Ensys,” a High Elf belonging to the Averian Pegasus Knights.
This elven maiden exudes a serene aura that soothes even the most untamed creatures. Her unwavering bond of trust extends to her companion, Kibo, the Pegasus named Lorilei. While her formidable lance may catch some off guard, it’s her voracious appetite that truly captures people’s attention.
Terara hails from the Furrian race and proudly proclaims herself as Charlulu Village’s top hunter.
This spirited wolf girl wields her spear with unwavering determination to safeguard those dear to her. Possessing an insatiable curiosity about the world beyond, she tends to act first and think later, making her quite the adventurous and lively character.
But of course, these are just your typical female characters until we delve into Azur Promilia’s Pammy race. Peipei, the panda Pammy, stands out as the top waitress, adept in the art of kung fu, adeptly managing bills, and exuding irresistible cuteness! Guests contemplating playing a prank on Peipei should reconsider.
Indeed, you’re correct. The game will include adorable “loli” characters, such as the charming little Panda girl known as Peipei in this instance.
Peipei is accompanied by “Nono,” the endearing little cat/fox girl from the Pammy Adventure Duo. Her primary weapon? Swinging around a hammer as large as herself, proving that actions speak louder than words.
As depicted in the announcement trailer and gameplay footage, the characters showcased are just a glimpse of the vast array you’ll have the opportunity to discover and perhaps invest your life savings into obtaining.
One such loli bears a striking resemblance to a Racoon/Tanuki, adding to the diverse cast that awaiting players
I’m somewhat bothered by the promotional animations of the characters compared to what’s shown in the gameplay demonstration. In the promotional materials, the characters lack any sort of physics, particularly noticeable in the breast area.
However, in the gameplay footage, Azur Promilia goes all out with fanservice, reminiscent of miHoYo’s Zenless Zone Zero, featuring visible breast jiggle in character pose animations. Given Manjuu’s track record, it’s not surprising that their next game follows suit in this regard.
I’m genuinely excited about Azur Promilia. While I’m not drawn to most gacha titles due to the fact that I don’t play so-called “games” on a mobile device, I do make exceptions for larger-scale games like Genshin Impact.
These games offer intriguing stories and a variety of attractive characters, which is rare in the West. I’ve been keeping an eye on upcoming games like Project Mugen, Duet Night Abyss and Wuthering Waves, which are free-to-play action games aiming to replicate the success of miHoYo and quite honestly, I hope they succeed.
While the gacha system may be predatory, these games don’t necessarily require in-game purchases to play through until completion, they provide what consumers actually want, fun and entertainment with a glimmer of fanservice.
Azur Promilia seems to follow in the footsteps of Genshin Impact but appears even more polished and refined versus Wuthering Waves for example, with a simplistic creature companion, base building, and resource collection mechanics akin to Palworld, this game seems destined for success.
Excited by its diverse character designs and ample “fanservice,” I’m eagerly anticipating further details about closed beta test dates in the future. Personally, I’ve already signed up for pre-registration, a process easily done through the official website.
