qureate unveiled the latest details about “Maid of the Dead,” which is slated for launch on February 15 for Nintendo Switch with a PC release set for Spring 2024.
Previously announced just a couple short weeks ago, Maid of the Dead was one of five titles unveiled by qureate and is described as being an action shooting game centered around cute maids and hoards of the undead.
There wasn’t much information to go off from qureate’s announcement glimpse however from the smallest glimpse of gameplay footage that was showcased it was quite evident that Maid of the Dead is an auto shooter akin to that of Vampire Survivors.
Maid of the Dead is a full-scale auto shooting game where players take on the role of maids armed with heavy firearms, battling to eliminate the hordes of zombies plaguing the city and restore peace to Akihabara.
In the wake of a sudden viral outbreak, Akihabara has been transformed into a nightmarish city overrun by zombies. With each attack, more individuals fall victim to infection, escalating the devastation. Amidst this chaos, Nagisa Hihara (CV: Karin Isobe) discovers she possesses unique antibodies against the virus.
Determined to save her friend Rinka Kazane (CV: Lynn), who became separated during the chaos, and to reclaim the transformed Akihabara, Nagisa embarks on a mission to fight back.
The core gameplay loop is basically Vampire Survivors which I have absolutely no qualms with, considering how HoloCure: Save the Fans was regarded as one of the best games released throughout 2023, especially considering the fact that the game as a whole was free to play.
Much like HoloCure, Maid of the Dead features five cutesy maid girls to play as with the game as a whole featuring lovely pixelated character models throughout, offering a variety of different weapons to leverage and unlock to suit multiple different playstyles.
Maid of the Dead will also feature dress break mechanics as the player takes damage, considering the fan service nature of qureate this isn’t anything out of the ordinary, fans will no doubt appreciate the delicacy of defending Akihabara and the “purity” of their selected character.
If you didn’t already guess, the game features a variety of provocative CG artwork, alongside the mechanic of “mending your maids”.
What do I mean by that exactly? Maid of the Dead features a unique aspect in that upon defeat your character will become zombified, which in turn will require the player to douse them in specialty medicine to revert them back to being human once more.
And of course, the more you shake the medicine the greater effect it will have, time is of the essence after all so don’t hold back when it comes to splashing lifesaving vital de-zombification liquids all over them.
As previously mentioned during its initial reveal, Maid of the Dead will also feature character / story building elements as well to be more engaging. By clearing certain criteria you’ll be able to unlock sub-stories featuring the playable cast of maid girls.
And of course, additional CG artwork will make it worth your while.
The cutesy auto shooter will release for the price of $20 on Nintendo Switch on February 15th with the aforementioned PC Steam release coming sometime in Spring this year. qureate also announced that Maid of the Dead will support Japanese voice-overs along with text options in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
