On June 22, indie developer Kamotachi announced that their side-scrolling action game “KinnikuNeko: SUPER MUSCLE CAT” will be ported to Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One home consoles following a successful debut on PC. The game is set to launch in 2024.
“KinnikuNeko: SUPER MUSCLE CAT,” created by a singular Spanish developer who goes by ChardiTronic, was released on Steam on March 19th to positive reception, despite having just 94 reviews and the fact that the game was released whilst its developer took himself to the hospital. The game draws inspiration from anime aesthetics and culture, evident in its character designs and overall premise.
“KinnikuNeko: SUPER MUSCLE CAT” is an action-adventure platformer where players control a super-muscular cat named KinnikuNeko.
The game combines classic platforming mechanics with unique and humorous elements that set it apart from typical genre entries. The plot follows KinnikuNeko as he embarks on a quest to rescue his friends and save his homeland from an evil alien force.
Along the way, players will encounter a cast of quirky characters, uncover secrets, and unlock new abilities that enhance KinnikuNeko’s powers.
The game features a stage-clear 2D action format where players use muscular attacks and dashes to dodge enemy attacks. KinnikuNeko teams up with fellow uncaptured comrades, Lemon and Keita, to save humanity.
Meeting Lemon allows the cat to remove its pants and transform back into a regular cat. In this form, it cannot attack enemies but can climb walls, reach platforms inaccessible in its muscular state, and perform longer dash jumps. Lemon can also put the pants back on to return the cat to its muscular form.
Players will need to switch between these two forms to clear stages and collect items.
Praised for its humorous world, high-quality visuals, and cutscenes influenced by Japanese anime, the game is now set to release on consoles. According to the developer, numerous improvements and additional features are planned for the console versions.
A major update is also coming to the PC version, with details to be announced later.
