The best April Fools jokes are the ones that aren’t actually a joke, with Inti Creates, one of my most respected Japanese developers announcing a brand new game “Divine Dynamo Flamefrit” which aims to serve as a nostalgic 2D fever dream.
Fusing top-down action with first-person view robot battles, “Divine Dynamo Flamefrit” delivers authentic 16-bit style action gameplay. Players can immerse themselves in both the top-down action sequences, controlling the sword-wielding youth Yuuto Hino, and the first-person view robot battles, commanding the mighty Flamefrit.
The release date raises eyebrows, labeled as a launch in the “near future,” hinting at an April Fools’ prank. Yet, considering Inti’s track record, they frequently unveil or hint at projects long before confirming a definite date.
Looking back into the company’s history, on April 1st, 2023, Inti Creates unveiled the Love Live! spin-off game “YOHANE THE PARHELION -BLAZE in the DEEPBLUE-” which turned out to be a real game which released to widespread acclaim.
The odds would favor this is indeed a legitimate game set to release in the near future, with a concrete date likely to be disclosed shortly. “Divine Dynamo Flamefrit” features top-down action akin to “Trials of Mana,” coupled with robot battles reminiscent of “Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon,” and charming 90s-style anime character illustrations.
