Initially revealed as an April Fools’ joke, the nostalgic 16-bit 2D action game that blends top-down sections with first-person robot battles, “Divine Dynamo Flamefrit” has now been officially announced for release in Winter 2024 by Inti Creates.
It will also be included as a bonus with physical copies of Card-en-Ciel.
Unfortunately, physical copies of Divine Dynamo Flamefrit will not be available, as they are exclusively bundled with the October 24th release of Card-en-Ciel. However, during BitSummit, Inti Creates announced that the game will be released independently as a digital-only title across all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation 4 and 5, Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, and PC via Steam.
Inspired by ’90s robot anime, Divine Dynamo Flamefrit is a nostalgic 2D action game. Players will experience two distinct gameplay segments: a top-down view where they control the protagonist, Yuto Hino, and a first-person perspective for piloting the giant robot, Flamefrit, during boss battles.
The objective is to bring peace to the fantasy world of “Hologard” through a blend of swordplay and magic.
Yuto primarily battles with his magic flame sword but can call on his three magic-wielding friends for additional support. The cast includes Yuto, the Knight Flamefrit, Maho Kazamatsuri, Tamaki Mikagami, and the sturdy Mamoru Tsuchiya.
The game features a top-down environment reminiscent of classic Legend of Zelda titles, combined with first-person mecha action.
The official website for Divine Dynamo Flamefrit is now live. Although pricing details have yet to be announced, it’s unlikely the game will be priced excessively. I have a soft spot for Inti Creates, as they are one of the few Japanese studios steadfastly resisting global censorship pressures.
Gal Gun Returns, a remastered version of the 2011 rail shooter, has been announced for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. Notably, there’s no mention of a PlayStation release, likely due to Sony’s stance against attractive anime characters and fanservice, which would have led to censorship demands.
Given Microsoft’s stance on feminine beauty and adherence to the ESG agenda, they sought to have Gal Gun Returns censored on their system. Seizing the opportunity to stand by their original vision, Inti Creates canceled the Xbox version of the game, releasing a statement emphasizing their commitment to their initial design.
Inti Creates chose to withdraw their game from release on Xbox, and the game was subsequently released on Nintendo Switch and PC, garnering a niche but enthusiastic following. This move earned the Japanese developers my favor.
Inti Creates continues to captivate audiences with Divine Dynamo Flamefrit, their second April Fools’ joke turned full-scale game release, following Yohane the Parhelion: BLAZE in the DEEPBLUE.
