This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “Holo Live.“
The cherished character “Holo” from Spice and Wolf is set to make her debut as a VTuber on April 3, 2024. This debut aligns with the premiere of the rebooted anime series scheduled for April 2nd.
Fans can catch Holo’s first appearance on the TOHO Animation Channel on YouTube and the official Spice and Wolf anime TikTok account.
Every week, the revered wolf deity will unveil a range of projects exclusively available through video distribution. Moreover, this endeavor will be interactive, inviting viewers to submit their letters through a designated form.
Holo offered a sneak peek of her forthcoming debut with an initial message to her fans, hinting at what’s to come.
“I’m Holo – the Wisewolf of Yoitsu. I’m not sure if I can live up to the name ‘Wise Wolf’, but I have traveled far and wide, and have seen and heard enough to live up to my name of Wise Wolf. So now, I would like you to tell me about Master’s world through my streams. Come and see for yourself, will you?“
Spice and Wolf originated as a light novel series penned by Isuna Hasekura and published by ASCII Media Works. It was later adapted into two anime seasons airing from January 2008 to September 2009.
The series is set to return to TV with a remake under the title “Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf,” the new rendition has sparked controversy due to its low rate cookie cutter art direction while others argue it stays truer to the art style of the light novel than the original series, which is considered to be a modern classic.
Chief director Takeo Takahashi, known for his work on the original series, returns alongside director Hijiri Sanpei. Studio Passione handles the animation, a choice that has divided fans considering their past animated adaptations like “Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World” and “High School DxD Hero” were heavily criticized for their lackluster visuals.
In order to remain relevant, even ancient deities must adapt to modern times. With VTubering gaining immense popularity in recent years, they have become the most effective marketing tools for engaging with passionate fans of Japanese anime and manga worldwide.
