Following the success of last year’s highly popular NieR:Automata crossover event that even got me to install the game just to unlock 2B. Anticipation is soaring for this new collaboration for NIKKE.
This collaboration will introduce Emilia, Rem, and Ram as guest characters in the game, but sadly I am left disappointed from the lack of inclusion towards my favorite character, Beatrice, though her exclusion is understandable given the prominence and popularity of the other characters.
Specific details about the collaboration haven’t been disclosed yet. However, a commemorative giveaway is currently underway on Twitter, where players have the chance to win a NIKKE hoodie and a CD key for 300 Gems. The collaboration will introduce an original in-game storyline along with limited-time events.
The storyline, which revolves around the girls from Re:ZERO being summoned to the world of Nikke. In order to return to their own world, they must emerge victorious in a cooking contest offering a prize capable of generating a D-Wave fluctuation.
To secure victory, they embark on culinary training alongside the Maid For You Squad.
Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, commonly known as Re:Zero, is a renowned Japanese light novel series penned by Tappei Nagatsuki. Adapted into manga, anime, and various other media adaptations, the narrative revolves around Subaru Natsuki.
Transported to a fantastical realm, Subaru discovers he possesses the ability to reset time to a specific moment upon death. Utilizing this power, he embarks on a journey fraught with challenges and perils, forging bonds with other characters in the process.
Following the closure of Destiny Child, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE has undoubtedly become SHIFT UP’s flagship title. This immensely popular gacha game revolves around stunning female characters engaging in battles against endless waves of enemies, allowing players to revel in the beauty of their character designs with captivating bouncing and jiggling.
Despite recent controversies regarding allegations of character design plagiarism from Neco’s FALSLANDER series, the game’s popularity remains unwavering. SHIFT UP appears to understand their target demographic well, evidenced by updates that make characters more revealing. Surprisingly, 40% of its player base in South Korea consists of women, debunking the notion that the game solely caters to the “male gaze” as even female players enjoy the fanservice.
As previously mentioned, three new characters are set to debut in the collaboration event between NIKKE and Re: Zero. Among these, two will be SSR (Super Super Rare), while one will be SR (Super Rare).
The announced characters are as follows:
- Emilia (SSR)
- Rem (SSR)
- Ram (SR)
Emilia will be the inaugural character released during the collaboration, and players will have the opportunity to summon her immediately following the maintenance on March 21, 2024.
Her banner will run from March 21st, for those looking to pull for the purehearted demon in Rem, you’ll have to wait until March 28th before her banner goes active.
Both Emilia and Rem’s banners will conclude on April 11th, with Rem’s banner beginning one week later on March 28th. This leaves players with the decision of which character to prioritize for their resources.
As for Ram, she is the final character in this collaboration and is the only SR (Super Rare) character among the three. Unlike Emilia and Rem, players can obtain Ram by simply completing all of the event activities during the collaboration.
While it may be disappointing to see Ram as an SR character, I’m sure that players are eager to see her capabilities. Players of both NIKKE and fans of the Re: Zero series will have the opportunity to obtain at least one of the three characters, even if they have limited resources they’ll still be able to bask in the glory of a demonic maid bouncing around on their screens.
As Goddess of Victory: NIKKE continues to thrive, developer Shift Up is already looking beyond the game. Their upcoming action RPG, Stellar Blade, is set to launch in April 2024.
Additionally, Shift Up has plans for an IPO to leverage the momentum gained from NIKKE’s success.
Players can anticipate more collaborations and content updates in the foreseeable future. However, some players, including myself, would prefer if these collaborations maintained a sci-fi or gun-oriented theme. The collaboration with Re:Zero, being a fantasy isekai, feels somewhat out of place in comparison to NieR:Automata for example.
