Set to launch on April 11th, an update for SHIFT UP’s gacha game “Goddess of Victory: NIKKE” will unveil a fresh story event along with a new SSR-tier character named “Bay“ (voiced by Yu Serizawa).
The forthcoming event, dubbed “ONE MORE TIME,” will take place from April 11th to April 24th, centering on the Ark’s cheerleading championship. Bay, having the lowest score in the squad’s history, commanders will team up with Clay to pursue victory in the championship.
The latest addition to the roster, “Bay,” is specialized in enhancing the survivability of her allies. She boosts and replenishes her own Cover HP, resulting in a more resilient cover. Simultaneously, she disperses the damage received by all NIKKE and her cover to aid her allies in survival.
To acquire “Bay,” players must actively participate in her limited timed banner (gacha) starting from the conclusion of maintenance on April 11th (Thursday) until April 24th (Wednesday) at 11:59 PM.
Furthermore, a new feature named “Side Story” will be permanently introduced to the game with this update. Side Stories offer narrative content that diverges from the main storyline and are fully voice-acted.
To unlock Side Stories, players must clear Stage 6-15 of the main story, which is relatively attainable even for beginners. By joining the latest story event “ONE MORE TIME,” players can earn “Memory Film” items, which grant access to the archived story event “RED ASH.”
As usual for Goddess of Victory NIKKE, there will be limited-time rewards for consecutive logins. The commemorative 7-day login event, titled “COLORFUL CHEER UP,” will run alongside the main story event from April 11th to the 24th, concluding with a free ten-pull.
“Goddess of Victory: NIKKE” is a shooting RPG available for free on iOS, Android, and PC (Windows). Developed by the South Korean firm “SHIFT UP,” known for their upcoming 3D Action game Stellar Blade, which has gained attention online for its departure from Western norms in portraying women as anything but ugly masculine she hulks.
NIKKE, often dubbed as a “gun girl RPG” focused on showcasing the booty of many sexy women, garners praise from many mobile gamers while simultaneously drawing criticism by sensitive Westerners for “sexism.”
Despite the fact that a resounding 40% of its player base in its home country of Korean is comprised of female commanders, further adding evidence to suggest that women actually desire attractive women in their games, unlike the androgynous troglodytes that Western AAA developers are fixated on incorporating.
However, one cannot deny the profitability of selling appealing female characters to consumers. SHIFT UP’s collaborations with major Japanese IPs like NieR Automata and RE:Zero, which recently concluded, further highlight the success of this approach.
The game is incredibly lucrative, raking in tens of millions of dollars each month. Shift Up recently revealed their 2023 financial report, demonstrating a net profit of $79 million. This marks a staggering turnaround from 2022, where they suffered a $5.3 million loss. In percentage terms, this is an increase of 1591%, with their operating profit skyrocketing by 516% to reach a total of $82.4 million.
The game has also stirred controversy recently, both good and bad of course. Such as the time when its developers released a patch post-release, making one character, Dorothy, and her “Nostalgia” costume more revealing.
Additionally, accusations of plagiarism surfaced when the game introduced “Scarlet: Black Shadow,” where people felt as if SHIFT UP had blatantly plagiarized the popular illustrator Neco_Person, known for the “FALSLANDER” series of figures and merchandise.
Regardless, NIKKE’s next update is due to be much larger than usual, with the inclusion of Bay likely to generate a sufficient amount of individuals to deplete their gems in order to acquire the beautiful cheerleader.
If you haven’t already, you can download the game from the official website. If you start now, you should accumulate enough recruit vouchers and gems to acquire Bay by the time the event ends on the 24th.
