Visual novel fans have a lot to look forward to as Frontwing have officially announced Grisaia Remastered, a special physical collection that brings together the original Grisaia trilogy, including The Fruit of Grisaia (Grisaia no Kajitsu), The Labyrinth of Grisaia (Grisaia no Meikyuu), and The Eden of Grisaia (Grisaia no Rakuen).
Along with the main trilogy, the collection also includes three additional side stories: The Afterglow of Grisaia, The Leisure of Grisaia, and The Melody of Grisaia.
Grisaia Remastered is set to launch in Japan for PC on November 29, 2024, featuring enhanced 1080p visuals for every entry in the collection.
The standard physical edition, priced at ¥27,280, will include an acrylic stand, music discs, and an autographed card. For those looking for more, the Daikamura edition, priced at ¥40,480, offers everything in the standard version plus an erotic body pillow cover of the heroine Amane and an accompanying erotic audio drama CD.
The Grisaia no Kajitsu series of visual novels has garnered a dedicated fanbase since its debut in 2011.
Over the years, the franchise has expanded with various side stories and spin-offs, such as Grisaia Phantom Trigger and Grisaia Chronos Rebellion, with their own unique installments. The series delves into deep themes of redemption, forgiveness, and personal growth, while also exploring human nature, survival, and the lingering effects of past trauma.
Despite its heavy subject matter, the story is balanced by lighter, humorous moments driven by character interactions. The protagonist in the mainline titles, Yuuji Kazami, transfers to Mihama Academy, an unusual school with only five female students, each burdened by their own dark and complex pasts. Yuuji, too, carries emotional scars, and the story follows his journey as he helps the girls confront their struggles, seeking redemption and closure.
The Grisaia series has received multiple anime adaptations, each covering different parts of the visual novel trilogy. The Fruit of Grisaia aired during the fall of 2014 with 13 episodes, while The Eden of Grisaia followed in the spring of 2015 with just 10 episodes. The spin-off, Phantom Trigger, also received feature-length OVAs.
For English-speaking fans, there are currently no plans for an English release of the Grisaia Remastered collection. However, all of the main titles are available as a bundle on Valve’s Steam store, localized by ProtoType.
While these English releases are supposedly free of benign translation errors, they are considered subpar due to the lack of adult content. The English versions are based on the PlayStation Vita editions, which omit any 18+ CG imagery, the Grisaia Remastered collection includes full uncut renditions of all six titles with 1080p upressed CG artwork for all passionate scenes, making it the definitive edition for true fans of Grisaia.
