Now if only retarded consumers would see through the obvious lies and deception with Star Citizen, that would be great.
Initially unveiled in 2021, The Day Before was touted as an ambitious open-world looter-shooter zombie MMO, drawing comparisons to titles like The Division.
The project gained a substantial following on Steam thanks to impressive early “gameplay” trailers and lots of shillage from influential YouTubers. However, the anticipated release faced delays, with developers FNTASTIC providing occasional peculiar explanations for the setbacks.
The game finally launched last week, but it received a barrage of negative user reviews. Contrary to expectations, it turned out not to be an MMO but more of an extraction shooter, similarly to the likes of Escape From Tarkov and hilariously, it wasn’t a very well-received one at that.
In fact, the developers themselves tried to delete evidence of previously released game trailers that otherwise indicated that The Day Before was an MMO.
And now, a mere four days after its release, developer FNTASTIC has made the announcement of shutting down. No further updates will be produced for The Day Before, and the fate of the game is effectively dead.
While servers will continue to operate, at least for the time being, the overall future appears to assign well with the preexisting belief that the game as a whole was just an elaborate scam.
In their statement, FNTASTIC conveyed, “Today, we announce the closure of FNTASTIC studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue. All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners. We invested all our efforts, resources, and man-hours into the development of The Day Before, which was our first huge game. We really wanted to release new patches to reveal the full potential of the game, but unfortunately, we don’t have the funding to continue the work.”
Valve appears to have taken the step to remove The Day Before from Steam. Although the game’s Steam page remains accessible, it is no longer available for purchase.
Users who have bought the game are indicating that they can obtain refunds, even beyond the typical 2-hour limit, such as this saint who managed to get a full refund after almost 50 hours of playtime.
Upon entering early access on December 8th, the game faced a flood of overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam, accumulating over 10,000 reviews within approximately 8 hours of its release, marking it as one of the most poorly reviewed games in Steam’s entire history, second only to Overwatch 2 of course.
The developers had hinted at a significant update the following day. Nevertheless, the statement discloses that, despite a genuine eagerness to release patches, there is apparently a “lack of funds” for that purpose.
The studio highlights their decision to abstain from pre-orders or crowdfunding, clarifying that they received no financial support from consumers. They’ve apparently undergone five years of developmental dedication, which is why the team at FNTASTIC have been working on several projects in conjunction with The Day Before, such as Propnight, their previous game of which they’ve shut its servers down a day before The Day Before’s release.
Hilariously enough, competing games such as DayZ Standalone are taking the piss, which itself faced immense ridicule and scrutiny for being a scam for years after its release as the folks at Bohemia Interactive eventually resurrected their rendition of the popular ARMA II mod by delivering on their promises and flushing out the actual game after many years of continued work and dedication.
With the official DayZ Twitter account posting their own rendition of FNTASTIC’s announcement proclaiming that their supposedly “dead game” remains undefeated after an entire decade of development, alongside a cheeky mention of the fact that their game includes melee of which The Day Before does not.
The saga of this illusive scam game finally draws its close as the folks at FNTASTIC will likely rebrand and start swindling consumers once again.
