The commercialized celebration of all things “woke” and political happened yesterday, many games that have seemingly came and went within the span of the week, such as Alan Wake 2 went home with several awards, with the pinnacle of western culture, Baldur’s Gate 3 walking home with the most prestigious purely for being able to have sex with a bear.
What’s supposed to be a celebration of gaming is turned into a massive media entity favoring politically correct titles over those that genuinely deserve to be celebrated, throughout the whole publicized event countless creators and studios use its immense popularity to announce and showcase new and upcoming games.
This years event has been no different compared to the last several, bad games win awards, people complain that the obviously rigged commercial “award” ceremony is rigged and we move on with our lives until the next show the following year.
Out of all the countless new games announced during the 2023 Game Awards, majority of which feature main protagonists of diverse origin, predominately of Black ethnicity.
Not that there’s anything specifically wrong with having the main focus on characters of black / brown complexation, so long as they are actually well written there’s hardly much of a problem, until you start to realize that the entire point of diversity is to simply be INCLUSIVE of other, marginalized races.
To be inclusive of other races, despite the fact that essentially every single game announced during this years game awards features black / brown characters in main roles, with there hardly being any representation for White male characters throughout the show.
Because these games aren’t actually inclusive to all races at all, rather the notion of diversity is to simply replace White characters outright by incorporating more and more diverse characters that aren’t well written and are merely walking and talking depictions of ESG points.
And yet if you take notice of the obvious fact that White characters are being phased out under the pretext of “diversity”, the social media locusts of California will demand your head for being one of the most “racist” and “vile” people imaginable, can you really call it diversity if the only form of representation are a disproportionate amount of these so called marginalized groups? I can’t.
Diversity is supposed to be about the inclusivity of marginalized groups, if the main focal point of representation focuses entirely on depictions of characters with Black / Brown origin, at that point a White person would be the marginalized individual, but you’re never allowed to actually say that because that’s apparently racist.
Regardless of anti-White agendas that masquerade as tolerance and inclusivity, the game that I am most looking forward to that was announced during this years game award ceremony has to go to Usual June.
Usual June narrates the tale of a girl, specifically a Black girl, as she grapples with the challenge of striking a balance between her summer break and the monumental task of saving the universe, the reveal trailer caught my eye, not because I believe the game is anything special either from a narrative perspective or even a gameplay standpoint.
The game, developed by indie studio Finji who are notorious for producing games such as Tunic and Night in the Woods seems to be a typical hack and slash action game that will most certainly appeal to the peculiar audience of Reddit.
I however think differently, the reason why this game caught my attention the most out of everything else revealed during this years Game Awards was not out of excitement but rather the anticipation of its impending failure.
Why do I say this exactly? Well, because Usual June bares the mark of the beast when it comes to modern gaming.
To actual gamers, Sweet Baby Inc are a fairly recent discovery, with every single game that has publicly disclosed to have worked in conjunction with the outfit evidently ends up being woke monstrosities focused more so on pushing diversity focused story-driven monstrosities with agenda laced throughout.
Some of the bigger names that Sweet Baby Inc have worked on include God of War: Ragnarök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which went absolutely overboard in terms of enforcing a political agenda and more recently Alan Wake 2 which features a race swapped protagonist in the form of Saga Anderson, who inside the forgettable sequel to Alan Wake is now portrayed as a Black woman.
Every single game that Sweet Baby Inc has touched, curated and assisted with has gone on to launch with progressiveness as the main attraction over actual gameplay and enjoyment. So imagine my shock to witness that Usual June are announcing their collaboration with the ESG compliancy agency as if it were a badge of honor.
Kim Belair co-established Sweet Baby Inc. with the aim of finding a more secure environment in the video game industry and continuing her career within it, the entire focus of her company is to clamp down on the “larger problems” within the gaming development world, such as “toxicity”, sexism and “institutionalized racism”.
Which is why she among many others now design narratives for a variety of games, to “address” these problems and “creating a safer working environment” in the game development scene.
Their core proposition is to offer developers guidance on crafting “truly diverse and inclusive narratives” to enhance resonance with audiences. However, this approach often results in all their titles being the same sort of cinematic rubbish, albeit with the added challenge of poorly written diverse characters awkwardly inserted into the mix.
Consumers tend to dislike these characters as they perceive them to be disingenuous and shoehorned in, because they typically are.
Usual June is a lot like many of the other games announced during the presentation, ESG bait made by sensitive feminists who wish to impose their political views and agendas upon the audiences of those who consume their products.
At least with its presentation and announcement of Sweet Baby Inc’s involvement, wary consumers know to avoid Usual June when it releases sometime in 2025.
