PerroAutonomous has launched a demo for a Resident Evil 2 Fan Remake presented in a first-person perspective.
I won’t deny that the idea of remaking the 1998 original of Resident Evil 2 in a first-person perspective is a defiance of purists and deviates from the series’ signature third-person tank control scheme.
Nevertheless, the concept is very intriguing.
In contrast to Capcom’s official Resident Evil 2 remake, this fan-created adaptation strives to maintain the spirit of the original 1998 release. This is evident in its art style and environments, which closely mirror the original game, along with the use of sounds and dialogues directly extracted from it.
This approach provides the fan project with an authentic representation. While the graphics may exhibit some blockiness, it’s important to note that the backgrounds in the original were pre-rendered and are now being created entirely from scratch as a full 3D environment.
They still carry a nostalgic charm with the assurance that this isn’t some heartless adaptation, further proven by the remade CG cut-scenes which are now presented in a first-person perspective.
It’s worth mentioning that PerroAutonomous, the creator of this project, was the same individual who previously remade the original Resident Evil in a first-person perspective. This not only added a unique flair to the inaugural game but also introduced a more responsive control scheme just as it does with his FPS remake of RE2.
Unfortunately, the artist currently has no intentions to recreate the entirety of Resident Evil 2, at least for the foreseeable future. Therefore, a full free game release is not expected. Nevertheless, you can download and experience the demo from PerroAutonomous’ itch.io link.
For enthusiasts of the classics, these first-person perspective renditions of the first two Resident Evil titles are well worth spending a few hours of your time on in playing.
