I have a soft spot for earnest indie titles and fangames as previously mentioned, or at least I tend to favor these sorts of games so long as they don’t push garbage agendas within them.
And more often than not it’s usually Asian developed indie titles that strike me fancy, with a new indie firm dubbed “SAVE GAMES” ironically looking to save the video game industry from the monotony of horrible ugly characters pushing progressive values.
Their first game, titled “END OF BACK WORLD” was revealed on November 1st and is a self described Bishoujo third person shooter action game featuring you guessed it, “anime” styled characters which in the vain of “Bishoujo” (美少女) is beautiful girl which brings femininity back to female characters that modern western cultures lament against in the gaming industry.
It’s planned for release on PC via Steam and apparently looking to make the jump towards modern consoles platforms as well, with console versions anticipated to be for the Nintendo Switch, Sony’s PlayStation, and apparently on XBOX Game Pass.
The game itself is slated to provide full subtitle options for the English language alongside Japanese, Korean and Chinese languages as options as well.
Set inside the world of SCP (Secure, Contain and Protect) players take on the role of agents from a special academy, engaging in battles against mutants in the hyper-realistic space of the “Back Room.” With their mission being to cleanse the city by defeating foes and to rescue its inhabitants.
Shown inside the short three minute teaser, players receive missions at the academy’s facility, traversing to locations where mutants are running amok.
The “Back Room” serves as your battleground, depicted as a neon-lit city with dark landscapes, inhabited by humanoid creatures and various mutated monsters, obviously as a third person shooter would your combat utilizes various weapons like pistols, shotguns and rifles, but you can opt to engage in close quarters combat with a sword as well.
The game is also designed as a looter shooter, allowing players to enhance their characters as they progress through the Back Room. Resources obtained from defeating mutants can be utilized to purchase new weapons and most likely upgrades too.
Furthermore, it incorporates roguelike elements, indicating that upon defeat, acquired equipment will be lost, and players will be returned to the academy, so it offers some form of replay value.
Additionally, players can personalize their own room, acquiring different furniture using gathered resources. These items serve not only for personal decoration but also for quicker progression and improved recovery.
Within the Back Room, players can acquire items besides weapons, allowing for additional combat training alongside weapon modification. It’s possible that the academy offers lasting enhancement features like training facilities as most roguelike games typically allow some limited form of permanent status buffs.
Additionally, the game seems to incorporate limited aspects city exploration. The teaser video revealed a city setting with obvious Japanese influence. Players have the opportunity to interact with and “establish friendships” with characters from the same academy, and the information and experiences gained from them will significantly aid battles within the Back Room.
Furthermore, you can adjust the visual look of the protagonist through customization aspects such as alternative hairstyles, clothing, accessories, and more. These customization items might also be available for purchase using resources.
Currently the games price is unknown and there is no planned release date at the moment which is most unfortunate because this looks like a cutesy small budget title that’ll provide at least a handful of hours of entertainment if you’re one to stomach third person shooting styled games. If cute anime games is up your alley then certainly give this one a bookmark or add it to your wishlist for future updates and announcements regarding END OF BACK WORLD.
