Discord is implementing a workforce reduction of 17 percent, as stated by CEO Jason Citron, with the intention of “sharpening our focus and enhancing the way we collaborate to introduce more agility to our organization.”
The layoffs were communicated to employees today through an all-hands meeting and an internal memo that I have obtained. Approximately 170 people across various departments will be affected.
According to Citron’s message to employees and my understanding of the business, Discord is not facing severe financial challenges, although it has yet to achieve profitability and is actively working to reinvigorate user growth following a surge during the pandemic.
In his memo to employees, acknowledging a trend among tech CEOs, Citron stated that Discord expanded its workforce too rapidly in recent years, growing by five times since 2020, leading to increased inefficiencies in operations.
Despite the workforce reduction, Discord’s financial stability remains robust. With approximately $1 billion in funding and over $700 million in cash, the company is aiming for profitability in the current year, as per insider information. In 2021, Discord turned down a $12 billion acquisition proposal from Microsoft and is now contemplating an initial public offering (IPO).
These staff cuts are the most significant in Discord’s history since it laid off 4% of its workforce in August of the previous year. This downsizing aligns with broader industry trends, exemplified by major tech players like Google and Amazon, both of which recently announced substantial layoffs.
Discord is providing a comprehensive compensation package for affected employees, encompassing five months of paid leave plus an additional week for each year of service at Discord. Social benefits will also be extended for the same duration, coupled with three months of employment assistance services and access to Modern Health services until the conclusion of 2024.
Of course it goes without saying that there’s such strenuous compensation packages provided given how the company as a whole seemingly ignited into infamy, staffed entirely by prissy progressive individuals. Given how the company is rather hypocritical in terms of following its guidelines, given how Discord is so unanimous in modern society and internet culture such extraordinary lengths have to be made in regards to providing a safe environment for children.
But alas, Discord itself is staffed entirely by left-leaning individuals, who of course condemn the so called “right” who simply want to safeguard children from actual online predators and or LGBT indoctrination.
And now Discord gets its kicks by pushing users into paid subscriptions for mundane features that aught to be standard rather than actually improving their platform which is so unanimous with pedophilia and other heinous crimes.
Hilariously enough you can circumvent their Discord’s Nitro pedaling by installing third party software such as “BetterDiscord” which incorporates various features the community has been asking for years to be included.
Either way it would seem that Discord has finally started to rid itself of needless excess weight as too many individuals were seemingly loitering around the break lounge.
