I’m not a particularly smart man, but if people are bombarding your artwork with vomit emojis, perhaps you might be posting it in the wrong place.
Following Sony’s controversial decision to mandate that PC players create a PSN account and link it via Steam to continue playing Helldivers 2, a move that was met with strong opposition, resulting in hundreds of thousands of players review bombing the game or requesting refunds.
Sony eventually retracted their plan. Now, it seems Arrowhead Game Studios’ own official Discord server for Helldivers 2 is taking steps that could further harm the game’s prospects.
A significant number of players have quit Helldivers 2 following Sony’s attempt to exert moderation control over PC players. The game had 115,000 concurrent players as of May 4th, but this number has since dwindled to around 50,000 – 60,000 on average.
While many players have naturally moved on from the game over time due to burnout, the simplistic yet addictive nature of the live service game can only retain interest for so long, this is a naturally occurring thing that happens to games that are “the flavor of the month” or so to speak.
However, a recent controversy has emerged from Helldivers 2’s own Discord server. Discord, the most popular platform for online community communication, is used for various purposes beyond gaming. The platform itself has faced its share of controversies, such as “accidentally” viewbotting their own April Fools video and banning the official server for Little Witch Nobeta due to illicit artwork, despite ongoing perceptions of broader issues within Discord revolving around real life child exploitation and animal abuse.
Because a moderator on the official Helldivers 2 discord server has seemingly lost their marbles, imposing bans upon countless inhabitants simply for not liking specific artwork.
Helldivers 2 was widely praised, managing to sell over 12 million units—surpassing Sony’s own first-party release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in half the time. The game earned acclaim for its politically neutral stance, a rarity in modern gaming where developers often insert identity politics or controversial agendas.
The widespread popularity of Helldivers 2 attracted a diverse global audience. Players appreciated the game’s focus on fun without the intrusion of ESG/DEI themes or values. This straightforward enjoyment made the game appealing to a broad range of players, often referred to as “normies.”
Fans loved Helldivers 2 because it offered pure, agenda-free fun with friends. Naturally, the most devoted players joined the official Discord server to engage with like-minded individuals, find parties, and stay informed about patches and news related to the game. This community aspect further enhanced their gaming experience.
However, one of the moderators has taken things too far. The individual in question is of the rainbow variety and uses they/them pronouns, has been criticized for their actions. Such people for the most part are mentally deranged, constantly fighting and demanding representation or imposing their own fetishes upon others where it is generally unwarranted.
Tamburger, an artist and moderator for the highly popular Helldivers 2 Discord server, has been promoting their own artwork on the server. As an aspiring artist, they are using the platform to maximize exposure and gain support for their work, or more specifically they’re doing commission work for others.
Given that Helldivers 2 attracts a mainstream audience, unconventional fetishes or kinks, such as anthropomorphic animals (furry content), are not typically well-received. The general public often views furry artwork with discomfort, somewhat similar to the way they regard problematic anime artwork featuring underaged characters, though to a lesser degree.
Tamburger, a moderator and artist, posted their artwork on the Helldivers 2 Discord server. However, it’s unrealistic to expect universal agreement on political views or artistic preferences. Some server members expressed their opinions on Tamburger’s artwork by responding with the vomit emoji.
Predictably, as seen when certain individuals impose their views or identities onto characters and communities, they react negatively to disagreement. If you object to their choices, they may label you as a bigot. It’s crucial to stand your ground and be prepared for backlash if you disagree with them, as a disagreement often leads to further conflict.
Previously, a community manager for Helldivers 2, Katherine, a landwhale, asserted that the team specifically targeted “bigots” within the Helldivers 2 community who were debating whether the game should include LGBT-themed capes.
Katherine made unfounded claims about the game being “woke” and stated that Arrowhead banned “problematic” individuals who opposed the inclusion of LGBT-themed capes.
Despite this, the community Discord ostensibly tried to maintain a nonpolitical stance, discouraging discriminatory or hateful dialogue and those attempting to derail discussions by introducing irrelevant topics or pushing personal agendas. However, what followed revealed a level of hypocrisy that did not go unnoticed.
Needless to say, the official Discord server for Helldivers 2 enforces a strict “don’t oppose my gay rights” policy, where any disagreement with their sexuality or ideology is considered a hate crime. In another instance of “rules for thee but not for me,” the artist Tamburger was extremely offended when users responded to their furry artwork with vomit emojis.
The offense stemmed from the fact that the artwork in question was theirs. As a result, the moderator ordered timeouts for those who replied with vomit emojis, essentially going on a power trip simply because others expressed an opposing opinion.
It’s staggering how often individuals like Tamburger, whose personality is their sexuality, end up undermining and damaging niche communities, hobbies, or interests.
At this point, it’s fair to say that Helldivers 2 is no longer politically neutral. The moderator in question has followed through on their promise to ban those who responded to their artwork with vomit and thumbs-down emojis. Such actions suggest that they are not genuinely fighting for “representation” and “human rights,” but rather seeking to impose a controlled dictatorship over others.
They aim to force their views, including their sexuality, upon everyone else, and expect compliance without dissent. Anyone who disagrees is labeled an offensive bigot. Such individuals often cannot tolerate opposing viewpoints, equating disagreement with harassment. Ironically, someone like Tamburger would likely criticize loli artwork as pedophilic while demanding acceptance for their own preferences.
Negative reaction emoticons are considered emotionally traumatizing. I heard that Canada’s healthcare system recently implemented a policy to address such issues.
You are not allowed to express displeasure or discomfort with the preferences, fetishes or anything with a member of the LGBT, especially if they have control over the entire community. Any reaction other than praise is viewed as discrimination, rather than valid criticism. Naturally, deluded LGBT allies dismiss this stance, claiming people simply “shouldn’t be rude.”
Emotionally disturbed individuals should not hold positions of authority over others. They cannot handle criticism, perceiving it as a personal attack on their identity. They thrive only in environments where everyone is supportive and unconditionally affirming.
It’s truly astonishing to witness Helldivers 2’s rapid decline, exacerbated by Sony’s damaging decisions and now worsened by the expulsion of the game’s most loyal supporters at the hands of its unhinged moderators. If Arrowhead Game Studios hopes to save their game from fading into obscurity, they have no choice but to remove every single one of these problematic moderators.
