Publisher Emma Create and developer Caro Builders have revealed “Rota’s Nautical Chronicles of Trade,” a city-building and trade simulation game for PC via Steam.
The game is set to release around the end of June.
In this simulation game, players embark on city-building endeavors on a coastal map divided into panels. Unlike traditional city-builders, it presents a unique system where players can raise livestock to produce goods and must oversee the import and export of various commodities.
Additionally, players engage in negotiation battles, a departure from the norm, as they strive to revitalize the port town through maritime trade and vigorous commodity trade battles with other provinces.
The narrative unfolds in the port town of “Portamare,” where Princess Rota initiates maritime trade to alleviate her country’s dire circumstances. With land-based trade rendered impossible due to hefty tariffs imposed by the king of a neighboring country, players embark on revitalizing Portamare through town development and maritime commerce.
Caro Builders is no stranger to game development. Their previous project, “Emma’s Armaments,” a shop management simulator, was released on September 10th, 2022, receiving a mixed reception of 43% on Steam.
However, their subsequent release, “Helle’s Undersea City Project – Bringing Air to The Garden,” launched on October 6th, 2023, fared much better. This unique undersea city-building game garnered an impressive 84% on Steam, based on 45 reviews.
Their upcoming game, “Rota’s Nautical Chronicles of Trade,” offers players the freedom to construct a variety of facilities, such as ports, fields, and residences. They can establish production facilities to obtain essential materials and market export goods.
Notably, rare books, prized for their scarcity, can fetch high prices in the market.
Upon reaching trading destinations, players can engage in the negotiation battle known as the “Trade Negotiation Battle.” This battle can be led by Princess Rota herself or by hired merchants representing her, aiming to secure discounts.
Furthermore, trading with overseas countries unlocks new facilities for construction and attracts new residents to the port town as the port town expands, negotiations with neighboring countries may begin.
The game also introduces a diverse cast of characters, including Princess Rota from the forest kingdom, Viviana, an aide at the Portamare Governor’s Office, King Augustin of the Land of Ice and Snow, and the merchant Natalie, who serves there.
Prior to the game’s release in late June, it will be showcased at the INDIE Live Expo 2024, scheduled for May 25th.
“INDIE Live Expo” stands as the world’s largest indie game information program, having introduced over 2,600 titles to date under the theme of “contributions to gaming.” This time, the broadcast will be conducted simultaneously worldwide in four languages: Japanese, Chinese, English, and Korean.
