Activision continues to embarrass themselves with their upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which we’ve previously glossed over as being a worthless asset flip that’s masquerading as an independent title releasing just one whole year after Modern Warfare 2.
Having previously mentioned that modern game “sequels” are more or less an enhanced or continued expansion of the previous game entry, it has accidentally been revealed that this “new” $70 game was actually a glorified DLC expansion for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 surprising nobody.
Some users on Sony’s PlayStation 5 console are reporting very bizarre and unusual “errors” whilst attempting to play the rather short and boring single player campaign for Modern Warfare 3 in that the game is artificially locking them out from access unless they insert the disc for Modern Warfare 2.
Aside from the fact that this is quite literally the most funniest fucking thing imaginable, I genuinely wish I was joking.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sprung into life with an error that demanded users insert the disc for the previous game, but of course Modern Warfare 3 totally isn’t a glorified $70 DLC package that just happens to be recycling the entirety of its multiplayer portion from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.
Activision were made aware and promptly patched their hilarious mistake.
However users are now complaining that the game is continually prompting players who have already pre-purchased this pile of shit to pre-order the game to gain access to the single player campaign early.
Effectively locking them out from accessing the content early despite having pre-ordered the game for early access.
Call of Duty is the perfect game for the world’s most obedient sheep. Consumers who will gladly pre-purchase the same dogshit each and every year deserve to be treated this way if not even more severely, because clearly your average COD gamer is a glutton for punishment.
Why? Because the game, despite having already been established as a glorified DLC expansion pack for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 requires over 200GB of dedicated storage to allow for installation.
To put this into perspective, 2019’s Modern Warfare came out to be over 175GB required for installation, which quickly ballooned to exceeding 200 GB after a single year following several additional post release updates.
2022’s release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 weighed in at around 80GB for installation, excluding Warzone of course, which would require an additional 60GB of so. And of course we cannot forget to include the 60GB+ worth of mindless garbage updates brought upon through seasonal content.
Allegedly, the disc for Modern Warfare 2 only comes with just 72 MB on the disc itself, forcing console players to download hundreds of gigabytes.
So once again, for a third time running, a Call of Duty title will weigh in at over 200 GB and this time it’s at launch.
This is a serious concern, Activision are trying to pin the blame on its inflationary fetish regarding Modern Warfare 3 as offering “so much more content” which is complete and utter bullshit, content has nothing to do with any of this, more rather you’re just a bunch of lazy goddamn hacks.
Remember the time you used to be able to insert a disc and start playing the game immediately? Those days are certainly long gone now from the dawn of the 8th generation consoles, namely the XBOX One and PlayStation 4. Blu-Ray had become the standard media format and with that developers seemingly all universally agreed to stop compressing game files and force players to instead download large portions of the game which could no longer be physically contained on the much more dense blu-ray disc.
Game developers are never wrong, how could they possibly be promoting malicious practices? They are saints, they produce the games that we love and cherish.
The amount of narcissism that surrounds these entitles fucking hack developers is astounding to behold, they will genuinely try any and all tricks up their sleeve to sway public opinion away from their own failures as to why their games are bad, their writing godawful, their optimization woeful and their install sizes bloated beyond belief.
It’s always something else to blame when the most likely answer is most certainly the truth, developers are goddamn lazy. They’re so fucking lazy they’re more than happy to outsource their writing and QA to a woke ESG firm such as Sweet Baby Inc.
They don’t compress their own files anymore, the footprint of video games today have essentially increased tenfold in just a decade, with zero compression it’s impossible to physically contain such garbage even on a dual layer blu-ray disc, which is why since the 8th generation of consoles developers stopped compressing textures, audio and more simply because there was no longer a requirement to do so.
The internet has become a much more mainstream thing, we’re achieving faster and faster download speeds as more and more people are connected on the ether, there’s no requirement to compress game files anymore because it’s now “justifiable” to have the consumer instead download and install the required content that’s not physically present on the disc itself.
It’s not all doom and gloom, Activision simply allow you to select which “portions” of Call of Duty do you want to manually install / uninstall, potentially saving you some precious gigabytes.
It’s like getting stabbed but that’s okay because the bloke mugging you offered you some painkillers to dull the pain.
It just boggles the goddamn mind exactly how many game studios simply outright refuse to compress their shitty games, with developers making excuses about resource management towards the common trope of “it offers more content”, when in reality Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is the same exact fucking game as last years release, only with an even larger file size to boot.
The reason being hasn’t changed at all, the modern game developer are a bunch of useless lazy pricks.
