Bandai Namco has maintained a relatively low profile regarding its upcoming mecha game SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada which is slated for release on Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, the game was previously delated to an unspecified date back in September 2023.
However, today, we’re treated to a showcase highlighting its comprehensive character and mecha customization features.
For player customization, you have the option to choose their support functions according to their physique, hairstyle, costume, and more.
Regarding mecha customization, also known as the “Cradle Coffin,” you can personalize parts such as the body, arms, and legs, in addition to its weapons.
All of these features are demonstrated in the trailer, which is exclusively in Japanese, without a version provided for non-Japanese speakers. However, given that character customization is fairly straightforward, it should be easy to follow along.
Though it needs to be said, given how Bandai Namco are a supporter of ESG agendas and values, SYNDUALITY: Echo of Ada features nonsensical Body Type A / B clarifications to clamp down on femininity with more inclusive and progressive terminologies.
This bullshit has become normalized in Japanese video games over the past few years, with prominent titles such as Palworld, Pokemon, Elden Ring and Monster Hunter World featuring non-conforming standards.
Bandai Namco also revealed that a hands-on trial session will take place in Tokyo on February 18, featuring a new build of the game. However, applications for participation are limited to the official Discord server, which is exclusively in Japanese.
There’s no indication yet if a similar opportunity will be available for Western players. The deadline for applications is February 2, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Nevertheless I am glad to see a resurgence in the mecha genre, despite genderless body type formalities, SYNDUALITY does feature feminine looking female characters so it could very well be worth pirating at the very least if you’re into that sorta thing.
