One of the most renowned Japanese eroge developers, Alicesoft, has announced that they are now accepting pre-orders for the “Rance 35th Anniversary Box.”
This special collection brings together the entire history of the Rance series, Alicesoft’s flagship franchise and one of Japan’s longest-running adult game series.
First launched in 1989, the same year Alicesoft was founded, the Rance series combines elements of RPG, strategy, and visual novels with a focus on humor, complex characters, and deep narrative with a loving touch of rape.
While the series does include some controversial adult themes, it is celebrated for its compelling storytelling and engaging gameplay. The fact that this adult game franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary is a testament to its enduring popularity.
In my opinion, the highlight of the Rance series has to be when IGN’s Japanese division awarded Rance 10 its prestigious Game of the Year title in 2018, even surpassing Red Dead Redemption 2. It was a remarkable moment, perhaps the last time a journalist truly gave an honest opinion to consumers.
The anniversary collection, available exclusively in Japan, includes 12 game DVDs covering titles such as Rance 01, Rance 02, Rance 03, Rance 4 (4.1 + 4.2,) Rance 5D, Rance 6, Sengoku Rance, Rance Quest Magnum, Rance 9, and the latest mainline installment Rance 10.
It also features 17 soundtrack CDs with a total of 443 songs, a special three-sided box adorned with original artwork by artist Orion, and a booklet filled with illustrations of characters, monsters, and other elements from throughout the series.
Pre-orders for the “Rance 35th Anniversary Box” are now open until November 30th. The collector’s box set is slated for release on January 31, 2025, and will cost at least 29,700 yen if you plan to import it.
