CE-Asia has announced that their post-apocalyptic sci-fi action RPG, AI LIMIT, will be available for a limited-time distribution during the Steam Next Fest from October 14th to 21st, 2024. A demo version will also be released for PlayStation 5 during this period.
AI LIMIT is an action RPG developed by Sense Games with backing from the “Sony China Hero Project,” an initiative led by PlayStation’s China division and facilitated by Sony Interactive Entertainment to support Chinese game developers in reaching both domestic and global markets.
The demo is set in the game’s first stage “Sewer Town Southwest” and will offer around two hours of gameplay. Players will face regular mob enemies as well as a couple of powerful elites and bosses, while discovering hidden weapons and gear.
To overcome challenges, players must strategically use the abilities and spells they acquire throughout the stage.
After completing the demo, players will unlock a special “BOSS Challenge” mode, where numerous “Frame abilities” and spells, as well as mid-game weapons and equipment, become available. Players must strategically combine these tools to take on a mysterious and formidable boss.
AI LIMIT sets itself apart from other Souls-like games with its distinct anime-style aesthetic and character design, reminiscent of Bandai Namco’s CODE VEIN. Unlike traditional entries in the genre, AI LIMIT omits a stamina gauge, allowing for smoother, more fluid combat.
In AI LIMIT, players won’t need to worry about corpse retrieval. Upon death, you automatically lose your “Shards,” the game’s soul-like currency used to level up your character, making the death penalty more severe and eliminating the need to backtrack. To mitigate these losses, players can equip better Crystal Cores, which also boost the number of Shards earned from defeating enemies.
The world of AI LIMIT shares similarities with NieR: Automata‘s sci-fi dystopia. However, in AI LIMIT, all plant life has been wiped out, replaced by a strange substance. Monsters have overrun the world, and humanity’s civilization teeters on the edge of extinction.
Players take on the role of “Arrisa,” a mecha with regenerative abilities, tasked with exploring the monster-infested ruins of a city to uncover the truth behind the apocalypse and seek out a new hope for the future of humanity.
While AI LIMIT doesn’t focus heavily on sex appeal or fan service, as seen in games like Stellar Blade or NieR: Automata, Arrisa is a slim, expressionless beauty who can equip more revealing outfits or disrobe, which some players may find appealing unlike the Western games of today.
It’s refreshing to see Asian indie developers, especially those outside Japan, stepping into the realm of larger, more expansive games, breaking away from the typical mobile gacha game formula.
AI LIMIT offers a unique experience that might catch your interest, and you’ll have the chance to try it out during Steam’s Next Fest next month.
