Indie developers Clapperheads announced on July 23 that their horror game ‘Zoochosis’ will be released on Steam on September 23.
‘Zoochosis’ is described as a “bodycam” horror simulation game where players take on the role of a zookeeper working the night shift.
Players must identify and save animals infected and mutated by an unknown disease and create a vaccine, while also uncovering the zoo’s secrets. The game features multiple endings based on player choices and includes elements of animal care alongside survival horror.
In ‘Zoochosis,’ players will interact with various animals such as kangaroos, penguins, gorillas, giraffes, zebras, and hippos. They must manage tasks like replenishing food and cleaning enclosures. The trailer shows disfigured mutated animals approaching and attacking normal animals, and players must handle these mutants to protect the zoo.
The game also features mysterious devices and locations resembling meat processing plants, hinting at hidden secrets behind the zoo. Uncovering these truths while saving the animals will be crucial.
‘Zoochosis’ was initially announced for Steam on January 17. It has since been showcased at events like the ‘Future Games Show’ and ‘Summer Game Fest,’ where footage and demos were revealed. Now, the release date has finally been announced.
Clapperheads, the developer of ‘Zoochosis,’ is an indie game studio based in Bulgaria, with many employees from countries like Uzbekistan. They are also known for the exploration horror game series “Sparky Marky.” which have received mixed to positive reception from 66% and 75% from ~100 reviews.
However, ‘Zoochosis’ appears to be a far more ambitious project for the small studio, featuring gruesome, monstrous renditions of seemingly harmless animals. Giraffes with spider legs clinging to walls and kangaroos with large abdominal mouths create a unique zoo-themed survival horror experience.
This originality brings excitement and high hopes for the game’s success when it releases on PC come September 23.
