Publisher PLAION, formerly known as Kosh Media, a subsidiary of Embracer and the owner of Deep Silver have revealed Akimbot, an action-adventure platformer taking place in a science-fiction universe inhabited solely by robots.
Developed by “Evil Rapture” it’s scheduled for release in 2024, it will be available on Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
“Akimbot” presents a third-person action-adventure platformer where players embody Exe, a rebellious robot, accompanied by their sidekick Shipset. Their mission is to safeguard the world from the havoc orchestrated by the former scientist “Evilware.”
Throughout the galactic war, Exe voyages through space with their trusted partner by their side.
In terms of gameplay, the primary mode of attack revolves around using a variety of weapons. From what’s visible from the trailer and Steam store listing, there’s a diverse array of weapons, including rapid-fire beam shooters, long-range laser emitters, and even those that unleash spreading toxins or shoot ice bullets.
This offers a range of unique options for combat.
Exe’s arsenal is customizable and upgradable. Throughout the game, players can collect “BotCoins” by demolishing terrain and finding hidden crates, which can then be traded at the shop for enhancements. Special weapons can also be unlocked at the shop. So, besides battling the robotic enemies, players can enjoy the occasional hunt for BotCoins.
Moreover, the game allows for a range of actions like jumping, dashing, grappling, as well as wall-running. Exe is equipped with a “turbo-charged propulsion system,” enabling double jumps and short-range teleportation.
With this variety of moves, players can navigate the cosmos with great agility.
The creative force behind Akimbot are “Evil Raptor,” an indie game studio based in France, Its founder, Nicolas Meyssonnier, previously contributed to the 3D action platformer “Pumpkin Jack” which received acclaim upon its release in late 2020.
With a stellar review rating of 93% on Steam from 4,449 total reviews, it’s evident that “Pumpkin Jack” resonated positively with players.
Formally established in 2021, Evil Raptor appears to have experienced significant growth. With a team of eight developers, “Akimbot” marks their debut project under the Evil Raptor label.
However, judging by their track record, “Akimbot” might emerge as a noteworthy niche title that flies under the typical consumerist radar.
“Akimbot” clearly seeks to emulate the charm of beloved franchises like “Ratchet & Clank” and Jak and Daxter by infusing its gameplay with “tons of explosions.” It’s fascinating to anticipate how the game will deliver on its promise of high-octane action.
Once more, “Akimbot” is slated for release on PC via Steam, Sony PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2024.
