Kadokawa has unveiled a new trailer for the third season of “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!” The highly anticipated season which was announcement last June, is set to premiere on April 10th and will be broadcasted on Tokyo MX, BS11, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and TV Aichi.
Crunchyroll will also simulcast the anime as it airs, but frankly I’d rather you pirate the series and simply buy merchandise instead if you wish to show your support.
It’s noteworthy that the opening theme, titled “Growing Up,” will be performed by the artist Machico, known for her work on the first and second seasons of the anime. As for the closing theme, it will be titled “Ano Hi no Mama no Bokura” (Us, Just Like on That Day) and will feature performances by voice actresses Sora Amamiya (voice of Aqua), Rie Takahashi (voice of Megumin), and Ai Kayano (voice of Darkness).
For the third season of the anime, Takaomi Kanasaki will serve as the chief director, bringing his expertise to this highly anticipated installment. Yujiro Abe will take on the role of director for the season.
The most noteworthy shift in production involves the animation studio Drive who were responsible for KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, they will take over from Studio DEEN to handle the production of this new stage of the anime. This change does raise some concerns among fans.
The animation quality, as seen from the brief glimpse, still appears subpar, which is consistent with the series’ history of lackluster animation. However, given KonoSuba’s trademark over-the-top facial expressions, this “poor quality” actually contributes to the comedic charm of the series.
If it works, it becomes part of the show’s unique appeal, so own it.
Makoto Uezu will be instrumental in shaping the third season as he takes on the responsibility of composing the series, ensuring narrative consistency and quality. Bringing the beloved protagonists to life in this new phase will be the talented character designer Koichi Kikuta, who worked on the previous two seasons, and finally Masato Kouda will be responsible for composing the soundtrack for the third season of the anime.
Regarding the content covered in the adaptation, it seems likely that it will focus on the events of the 6th and 7th volumes of the Light Novel as many fans have speculated. These volumes revolve around Princess Iris, voiced by Kanon Takao, and is expected to culminate with Darkness’ wedding arc.
The wait for a continuation of the anime adaptation has been far too long. The first season premiered in January 2016, followed by the second season in January 2017. Excluding the 2019 theatrical release of the Legend of Crimson movie, fans have endured over seven years of anticipation which I certainly hope doesn’t disappoint.
Especially with Kadokawa’s recent interests in bringing more of the KonoSuba franchise to the west in the form of the recently released Love For These Clothes Of Desire! visual novel.
With the anticipated success of the third season, I’m hopeful that we’ll see some of the numerous KonoSuba games make their way to the West. This includes the two dungeon crawler titles by Entergram, known as “Labyrinth of Hope & the Gathering of Adventurers” and “Cursed Relic and the Perplexed Adventurers” and obviously the precursor to the recently released visual novel titled “Judgement on this Greedy Game!“
Once more, the third season of KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! will premiere on April 10, 2024.
