On February 9th, NITRO PLUS announced the release of “Dolls Nest” in 2024, unveiling the latest footage and officially presenting the gameplay and story. The game will be available on PC via Steam.
“Dolls Nest” is presented as a “customizable 3D action” game, with Nitro Arts overseeing conceptual planning and graphics. Artist Ota Yojo, serving as the 3D CG designer/character designer, leads the project and oversees both concept and direction.
In the game, players take on the role of controlling a mecha girl named “Frame Unit” as she navigates through the expansive factory world of Hod, endeavoring to uncover the mysteries hidden within the abandoned ruins.
Hod sprawls as a vast crater teeming with armored units, shattered machinery, and sprawling ruins stretching into the distance. Players must scavenge for essential parts to survive and conquer the challenges that lie ahead.
During combat, effective resource management appears crucial as actions such as evasion and weapon usage deplete energy reserves. Furthermore, the ability to customize the parts comprising Armored Soldiers’ bodies suggests that strategic rearrangement based on the situation will be vital, similarly to the reknowned “Armored Core” franchise.
As you traverse Hod, defeating each area’s boss is essential to unlocking new regions and witnessing the story unfold.
Customization plays a significant role in the game, offering a wide array of parts such as rocket engines, various weapons, and quadruped legs to tailor your mecha girls to any situation. The trailer and promotional material showcases a variety of leg parts, including reverse joints and multi-leg configurations.
Tactical energy management is crucial, as it powers weapons and dodging during combat. Deplete your energy reserves, and your mecha girls will be vulnerable until they recharge, leaving them defenseless.
I’m genuinely pleased to see a resurgence in the neglected mecha genre of games. This revival seems to be driven by the success of FromSoft’s Armored Core series, which was recently acknowledged as a financial success by Kadokawa in a recent financial report.
Alongside titles like CUSTOM MECH WARS from the quirky D3 Publisher and Bandai Namco’s SYNDUALITY, which features desexualized body type nonsense, it’s evident that the mecha genre is experiencing a significant resurgence, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I look forward to future developments of this particular title which will hopefully have a proper release date announced in the near future alongside another trailer.
